Pay: $125.00/hr.

POSITION SUMMARY INFORMATION: DUTIES AND REQUIREMENTS

Position Overview: In this role, you will provide comprehensive dental care services to residents within the detention facility while ensuring treatment is delivered in accordance with government detention standards, clinical protocols, and applicable healthcare regulations. You will evaluate, diagnose, and treat a variety of dental conditions while working collaboratively with healthcare staff, dental technicians, nursing personnel, and facility leadership to support resident health and wellness. This position requires strong clinical expertise, professionalism, sound judgment, and the ability to provide quality dental care within a secure detention healthcare environment.

Responsibilities:
  • Conduct dental examinations, oral health assessments, evaluations, and diagnostic reviews for residents presenting with dental concerns or treatment needs.
  • Diagnose and treat dental conditions including tooth decay, infections, gum disease, oral injuries, and other routine or urgent dental issues.
  • Perform dental procedures including fillings, extractions, cleanings, emergency treatments, and other approved clinical services within the scope of practice.
  • Develop treatment plans and provide follow-up care recommendations based on resident dental health needs and clinical findings.
  • Review dental x-rays, medical histories, treatment records, and healthcare documentation to support accurate diagnosis and treatment planning.
  • Respond to dental emergencies, urgent oral health concerns, pain management situations, and infection-related issues as needed within the detention facility.
  • Coordinate care with medical providers, nursing personnel, dental technicians, outside specialists, and behavioral health staff regarding resident healthcare needs.
  • Maintain accurate dental records, treatment notes, prescriptions, clinical documentation, and operational reports in compliance with HIPAA and facility standards.
  • Ensure compliance with government detention standards, infection prevention procedures, OSHA requirements, and healthcare regulations related to dental operations.
  • Monitor dental equipment, instruments, and supply inventories while coordinating operational needs and reporting maintenance concerns.
  • Support audits, inspections, accreditation reviews, and operational assessments related to dental healthcare services and clinical operations.
  • Maintain professionalism, confidentiality, effective communication, and sound clinical judgment while providing safe and effective dental care within the detention facility.


Qualifications:
  • Must possess a Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) from an ADA-accredited dental school.
  • Must possess a valid, active, and unrestricted license to practice dentistry in the State of Arizona (issued by the Arizona State Board of Dental Examiners).
  • Must possess an Active Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) registration for controlled substances.
  • Must maintain a CPR/Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Must possess at least three (3) years of general clinical dentistry experience.
  • Must be highly proficient in general dentistry, with a heavy emphasis on diagnostic imaging and comprehensive oral assessments, routine and emergency extractions / oral surgery, restorative work (fillings) and basic periodontal therapy, management of acute dental pain and infections, and fabricating and repairing simple prosthetics (partials/dentures).
  • Must be able to provide proof of citizenship or legal US work authorization.
  • If prior active-duty military, must provide copies of DD214(s) showing discharge condition.
  • Must consent to fingerprinting.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Clean criminal record and ability to pass a comprehensive background check and security screening.
  • Ability to pass a preemployment medical assessment and drug screening.
  • Excellent communication, observation, and report-writing skills.
  • Ability to remain calm and effective under pressure and in high-stress situations.
  • Ability to work flexible shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.


Work Environment:

Employees may be exposed to extreme cold or hot weather conditions, fumes, or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and loud noise.

Physical Requirements:

Employees may be required to remain in a stationary position, stand, push, pull, climb, kneel, crawl, balance, squat, bend, and reach. Employees may be also required to use gear to move items around, including, but not limited to, carts and dollies. Employees may also be occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 49 pounds.
