Summary:
The Dental Hygienist plays a critical role in preventive oral care, education, early detection, and student wellness. This provider supports the clinic's commitment to reducing disease rates among AAMU's diverse student population.
Examples of Duties• Provide prophylaxis, periodontal maintenance, and non-surgical periodontal therapy.
• Perform full-mouth charting, periodontal assessments, oral cancer screenings.
• Take and interpret digital radiographs (FMX, BWX, pano).
• Administer local anesthesia (if licensed).
• Apply fluoride varnish, sealants, and desensitizing agents.
• Deliver oral-health workshops, residence-hall education, and first-year student seminars.
• Educate students on the link between oral health and systemic conditions (hypertension, diabetes, cardiovascular disease).
• Maintain sterilization logs, instrument tracking, and adherence to OSHA/CDC standards.
• Monitor hygiene recall schedules and student follow-up needs.
• Assist with data collection for clinic reporting and metrics.
Typical Qualifications• Registered Dental Hygienist (RDH) with Alabama license.
• CPR certification.
Supplemental Information• Strong background in preventive care and patient education.
• Experience with young adult and diverse populations preferred.
