Position Purpose:The Dean of the College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences (CEHHS) serves as the chief academic and executive leader of the College and is accountable to the Provost for its mission, academic quality, people, programs, enrollment, resources, and long-term vitality.
The Dean provides strategic leadership that advances the mission, vision, values, and strategic priorities of Concordia University, Nebraska and ensures that the College distinctly embodies Concordia's identity as a Christ-centered Lutheran university. The Dean establishes the strategic direction of the College; develops its faculty and academic leadership; ensures the quality, relevance, and sustainability of its academic portfolio; allocates resources; advances enrollment and student success; strengthens external relationships - especially those connected to serving the schools and churches of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod; and represents the College within the University and to external constituencies.
This is a full-time position with full-time benefits package. Must be 19 years or older to apply. The preferred start date of this faculty position is July/August 2027 at the beginning of the 2027-28 Academic Year.
Responsibilities:- Promote the mission, vision, values and Lutheran Christian identity of Concordia University, Nebraska through the activities and programs of the college and work with other administrators to assure the well-being and success of Concordia University, Nebraska.
- Articulate a compelling vision for the departments and graduate programs within the college and move the vision into priorities, goals, and outcomes.
- Promote a productive and positive work environment for staff and faculty.
- Prioritize the university strategic plan and facilitate departmental planning to support it.
- Provide oversight for undergraduate and graduate education programs meeting Nebraska State Program Approval and national accreditation through the Council of Accreditation for Educator Preparation.
- Provide leadership and accountability for the college's graduate programs, including continuous improvement processes for curriculum, instruction, advising, assessment, program development, and program review of the graduate program in the college.
- Oversee undergraduate continuous improvement processes for curriculum, instruction, advising, assessment, program development and program review.
- Provide leadership for faculty recruitment, appointment, evaluation, development, promotion, contract status, and succession planning in collaboration with department chairs, program directors, the Assistant Dean, and Provost.
- Assure that the work of departments and programs in the college prioritizes meeting the standards for university and program accreditation.
- Champion an educational environment in which students are known, challenged, supported, mentored, and equipped to flourish academically, personally, professionally, and spiritually.
- Collaborate with other university offices for student recruitment and retention efforts.
- Serve as a principal external representative and advocate for the college to increase the visibility, reputation, and positive impact of the college and its academic programs, including relationships with schools, churches, organizations, employers, donors, etc.
- Provide financial leadership through annual budgets, resource prioritization, program performance, efficiencies, and accountability within the college.
- Encourage creativity, innovation, and scholarship to enhance teaching and learning.
- Implement academic policies and procedures to ensure compliance.
- Teach courses as approved by the Provost.
- Other duties as required by Cabinet.
Required Education and Experience:- Earned doctorate from an accredited institution.
- Established record of excellent university teaching, scholarship and distinguished university, professional and community/public service.
- Academic leadership and management experience within an institution of higher learning.
- Experience teaching and leading in PK-12 schools.
- Knowledge of higher education practices and trends.
- Knowledge of program and curriculum development and innovative teaching methods in the college, including technology and online education.
- Experience in the application of information management systems.
- Member of a congregation of The Lutheran Church--Missouri Synod
