Job Description:GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES:The Dean of Student Care provides strategic leadership for the College's integrated approach to student care, case management, specialized support, and targeted student success. Serving as the primary architect of the College's coordinated care and case management framework, the Dean develops the systems, partnerships, shared practices, and technology-enabled infrastructure that enable faculty and staff across the College to identify student needs, make effective referrals, coordinate support, and connect students with appropriate resources. This work strengthens communication and follow-up, reduces fragmentation, and provides appropriate access to student information while maintaining privacy, confidentiality, and role-based access.
The Dean provides leadership and oversight for TRIO, SUCCESS, the O'Neill Center for Student Access & Support, Perkins and MAIHE student support initiatives, Veterans Affairs, Student Counseling Services, essential needs, student care and case management, the CARE Team, Community Standards and Student Conduct, and other assigned student success initiatives. In close partnership with the Assistant Dean of Academic Advising, the Dean ensures that Academic Advising is fully integrated into the College's coordinated care and case management framework, with shared approaches to referrals, communication, follow-up, and connecting students to appropriate supports. The Dean also works closely with the Director of Student Wellness and Engagement to connect individual student care and specialized support with broader prevention, wellness, engagement, and belonging strategies.
The Dean provides leadership for staff supervision and development, strategic planning, assessment, budgets and grants, policy and technology implementation, partnerships, compliance, and continuous improvement across assigned areas.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:- Provide strategic leadership for the College's comprehensive student care and success framework, including specialized student support programs, case management, counseling, accessibility, essential needs, Veterans Affairs, Community Standards and Student Conduct, and related services.
- Build strong partnerships with Academic Affairs, faculty, Academic Advising, Enrollment Services, Financial Aid, Student Wellness and Engagement, Public Safety, and other College areas to establish shared responsibility for identifying student needs, connecting students with resources, and supporting persistence and success.
- Lead the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of a College-wide coordinated care and case management framework, establishing shared standards and best practices for referrals, case coordination, documentation, communication, follow-up, and closing the loop across academic and student service areas.
- Provide functional leadership for the evaluation, implementation, and effective use of case management and student success technologies that support coordinated care, shared information, referrals, communication, documentation, and assessment while ensuring appropriate privacy, confidentiality, security, and role-based access.
- Provide strategic leadership and oversight for targeted and grant-funded student success programs, including TRIO, Perkins, MAIHE, SUCCESS, and other initiatives, promoting collaboration, effective referral pathways, shared practices, and coordinated support to improve persistence, retention, completion, and equitable student outcomes.
- Lead the College's CARE Team and coordinated student intervention and crisis response processes, ensuring appropriate assessment, referral, follow-up, documentation, and collaboration in responding to students experiencing academic, personal, behavioral, financial, or other barriers.
- Provide administrative and organizational leadership for Student Counseling Services, ensuring adherence to professional standards, confidentiality requirements, and clearly defined referral and response protocols, while the Director of Student Counseling maintains responsibility for clinical leadership and supervision.
- Provide strategic leadership for the O'Neill Center for Student Access & Support and College efforts to ensure equitable access and appropriate accommodations for students with disabilities in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, and College policies.
- Provide strategic leadership for the College's approach to essential needs, strengthening resources, referral pathways, partnerships, and coordinated strategies that address non-academic barriers to student persistence and success.
- Provide leadership and oversight for Veterans Affairs and coordinate College efforts to support veterans, service members, military-connected students, and other eligible populations.
- Provide leadership for Community Standards and Student Conduct, promoting an educational and developmental approach to accountability that helps students understand College expectations, resolve concerns, and remain successfully engaged in their education.
- Establish measurable outcomes and use student success metrics, program participation and service-utilization data, student feedback, and assessment findings to evaluate effectiveness, identify equity and service gaps, and guide continuous improvement.
- Provide leadership, supervision, coaching, and evaluation for professional and support staff within assigned areas and foster collaboration, professional development, shared accountability, and a student-centered culture across the portfolio.
- Develop and oversee departmental and program budgets, grants, contracts, policies, procedures, partnerships, and operational plans while ensuring compliance with applicable laws, regulations, grant requirements, professional standards, and College policies.
- Serve as a senior advisor to the Vice President on student care, student success, conduct, crisis response, retention, and related Student Affairs matters and represent the College on institutional committees, community partnerships, and professional organizations.
Requirements:MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master's degree in Higher Education Administration, Student Affairs, Counseling, Social Work, Education, Public Administration, or a closely related field.
- Seven (7) years of progressively responsible professional experience in student affairs, student success, student support, counseling, accessibility, case management, retention, or related higher education functions, including experience providing leadership for multiple programs or functional areas.
- Five (5) years of progressively responsible supervisory or management experience, including experience supervising and developing professional staff.
- Demonstrated experience leading complex, cross-functional initiatives and developing collaborative systems or practices that span multiple departments or organizational areas.
- Demonstrated experience with strategic planning, program development, budget and/or grant management, assessment, and the use of data to evaluate effectiveness and guide continuous improvement.
- Demonstrated knowledge of contemporary student affairs practices related to student development, coordinated care and case management, equitable access, student success, persistence, and completion.
- Demonstrated ability to provide strategic and collaborative leadership, build effective partnerships, manage complex student and organizational matters, and communicate effectively with diverse constituencies.
- Unrestricted authorization to work in the United States.
ADDITIONAL PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:- Experience working in a community college or public higher education environment.
- Experience providing leadership for multiple student affairs or student success functions, including administration of specialized, federal, state, or other grant-funded student support programs.
- Experience with student conduct, behavioral intervention/CARE teams, case management, accessibility, counseling, or essential-needs programs.
- Experience using or implementing case-management, student-success, assessment, or other technologies to improve coordination, access, and student outcomes.
- Experience working in a unionized environment.

Additional Information:COMPENSATION: Annual salary range of $135,000 - $140,000, dependent upon qualifications. Full-time, Non-Unit Professional position that
