The Database Administrator II supports and enhances the organization’s database, reporting, and data integration environments. This role combines database administration with hands-on development, including SQL, ETL, reporting, performance tuning, automation, and production support.The position works with database administrators, solution architects, developers, infrastructure teams, and business partners to deliver reliable, secure, and scalable solutions across Microsoft SQL Server, Azure, and related data platforms.less than br>
Essential Functions/Responsibilities
- Administer and support Microsoft SQL Server including configuration, maintenance, patching, monitoring, capacity management, and troubleshooting.
- Develop, test, and maintain SQL queries and database objects, including tables, views, stored procedures, functions, indexes, triggers, and scheduled jobs.
- Monitor and tune database performance by reviewing execution plans and resolving blocking, deadlocks, failed jobs, inefficient queries, storage issues, and connectivity problems.
- Develop, deploy, monitor, and troubleshoot SSIS packages, SSRS reports, ETL processes, and related data integration solutions.
- Support operational databases, reporting platforms, data warehouses, dimensional models, and data workflows by translating business and technical requirements into working solutions.
- Perform backups, restores, point-in-time recovery, backup validation, and routine recovery testing.
- Administer database users, roles, permissions, and access controls; maintain documentation and audit evidence supporting security, SOX, and other compliance requirements.
- Automate database monitoring, maintenance, deployment, and support activities using T-SQL, PowerShell, SQL Server Agent, or comparable tools.
- Participate in database design, code reviews, testing, release management, production deployments, legacy migrations, and cloud modernization initiatives.
- Provide production and on-call support, collaborate across technical and business teams, and maintain technical, operational, and recovery documentation.
- Follow established database, security, change management, and operational standards while identifying opportunities to improve reliability, scalability, performance, and efficiency.
- Partner with lines of business and technical teams to gather and clarify requirements, evaluate solution options, and design, develop, test, and implement database, reporting, and data integration solutions.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Needed to Perform Essential Functions of the Job
- Three or more years of experience in database administration, database development, data integration, or a related area, including at least two years of recent Microsoft SQL Server experience.
- Advanced proficiency with T-SQL, database object development, query optimization, transactions, indexing, and relational database design.
- Experience administering SQL Server environments, including monitoring, security, backup, restore, recovery, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
- Ability to troubleshoot performance, availability, data, job, storage, and connectivity issues.
- Experience with database security, user access, source control, release management, change management, and software development lifecycle practices.
- Understanding of normalization, referential integrity, dimensional modeling, and logical and physical data design.
- Ability to translate business and technical requirements into database, reporting, and integration solutions.
- Strong analytical, documentation, communication, prioritization, and collaboration skills.
- Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, Data Management, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
Preferred Knowledge and Skills
- Experience with Azure SQL, Azure SQL Managed Instance, Microsoft Fabric, Snowflake, Power BI, Azure Data Factory, or other cloud data platforms.
- Working knowledge of SQL Server high-availability and disaster-recovery technologies, including Windows Server Failover Clustering, Always On Availability Groups, log shipping, replication, or comparable solutions.
- Experience with hybrid environments, cloud migrations, data warehousing, dimensional modeling, or database modernization.
- Experience in financial services or another regulated industry, including familiarity with SOX, audit, data privacy, and security requirements.
Level of Complexity and Scope
- Performs routine and moderately complex database administration and development work across multiple applications and environments. Independently manages defined assignments and escalates architecture, security, recovery, or enterprise-impacting issues.
Degree of Independence and Decision-Making
- Works under moderate supervision while applying established guidelines receiving minimal guidance.

Physical Requirements
- Prolonged periods of deskwork.
