JOID provides a diverse portfolio of analytical and programmatic capabilities to help our customers make informed decisions on their most challenging issues.
The Industry and Security Analysis Group (ISAG) within JOID provides analytical, technical, and program support to promote, grow, and protect the U.S. industrial base. ISAG’s support spans the Department of Defense (DOD), Department of Commerce, and other agencies to deliver critical decision support to national security leaders. Our team informs policy decisions, enables execution of comprehensive strategies and monitors and reports on the effectiveness of implementation. This enables senior leaders to execute strategies for developing and sustaining a robust industrial base that meets our nation’s strategic resource objectives. From policy to practice, we are a team of economic and national security professionals providing innovative solutions for our Nation’s most pressing security challenges.
We have an immediate need for a Data Scientist to provide onsite support at the Mark Center in Alexandria, VA or the Pentagon.
Responsibilities
The Data Scientist will support the DoW’s Office of Industrial and Investment Security (I2S) in developing risk mitigation options, monitoring compliance of (CFIUS) mitigation agreements, and analyzing outbound investment. The Data Scientist will develop tools and processes to analyze large, complex datasets detailing global financial trends, foreign and domestic acquisitions, and defense supply chain vulnerabilities. Develop and manage automated data streams using Python, R, or SQL to ingest publicly available information (PAI) and commercial economic data required to support the I2S mission. Design and sustain interactive dashboards using Tableau, Power BI, or similar tools to provide DoW leaders with real-time economic threat indicators, case statuses, and risk scores. Collaborate with intelligence analysts and policy advisors to draft operational memos, risk assessments, and executive briefings regarding critical technology protection.
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in mathematics, computer science, data science, or other STEM disciplines.
- 5+ years of hands-on experience applying data science techniques such as statistical analysis, mathematical modeling, Data/Database Engineering, Machine Learning, and Visualization.
- Programming competency in R, Python, or other languages suitable for managing and analyzing large datasets.
- Active TS/SCI clearance.
- Able to work fully onsite based on client needs.
Desired:
- 7+ years of hands-on experience with applying data science techniques.
- Master’s degree in mathematics, computer science, or other STEM disciplines.
- Operational experience in the DoW.
