POSITION TITLE

Data Governance Analyst

*A Hybrid schedule of both Remote and In-Office days is required. In office days are Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday with working hours targeting our core business hours of 9am-5pm EST.

What you will be doing

The Data Governance Analyst supports the Genworth Data Governance program (DGPO) by operationalizing governance standards, managing metadata and data quality workflows, and collaborating with business stewards to ensure that critical data assets are well-defined, trusted, and fit for use. This role operates within a modern cloud-native environment, leveraging Databricks/Unity Catalog for data engineering and Acryl DataHub as the enterprise data catalog.

The ideal candidate is analytically minded, a strong communicator, and comfortable working at the intersection of data technology and business operations. They will serve as a practitioner-level contributor on governance initiatives across the data lifecycle from metadata curation to data quality remediation to stewardship enablement.

Data Governance Analyst at Genworth will:
  • Support data stewardship activities across assigned business domains, partnering with data stewards and subject matter experts to define, document, and maintain critical data elements and business glossary terms.
  • Monitor and manage data quality issues by tracking DQ findings, coordinating remediation efforts with data owners, and escalating systemic issues through appropriate governance channels
  • Facilitate governance workflows including metadata review cycles, steward sign of, and CDE validation to ensure data assets meet standards
  • Maintain governance documentation and artifacts such as data dictionaries, domain taxonomies, RACI matrices, and policy standards, keeping them current as business needs evolve.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with business stakeholders, data engineering, and analytics teams to champion data governance adoption, support data literacy initiatives, and drive accountability for data quality at source.


The ideal candidate effectively prioritizes activities within resource constraints, identifies and documents business problems, gathers both business and system requirements, works with technical/functional leads to design and deliver innovative solutions. You will assist with keeping projects on schedule by resolving roadblocks, coaching/assisting with complicated tasks and escalating when needed.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Stewardship Enablement & Program Operations
  • Support onboarding and training of domain data stewards; prepare steward-facing materials including CDE Registers, readiness audits, and data dictionaries.
  • Facilitate working sessions with business stewards to gather input on attribute naming, definitions, and classification decisions.
  • Track open governance actions and decisions across workstreams using program logs and RACI matrices.
  • Contribute to DG roadmap execution by delivering against quarterly epics across the Data Atlas, Data Quality, Governance, and RDM categories.
  • Metadata Management & Data Catalog
  • Curate and maintain business glossary entries, domain taxonomies, and data asset metadata within Acryl DataHub
  • Collaborate with data stewards and domain owners to author and publish business definitions for Critical Data Elements (CDEs) and key attributes.
  • Execute metadata ingestion workflows and validate catalog completeness following DG sprint cycles.
  • Apply and enforce naming standards (physical and business attribute names) consistent with Genworth's SDL naming conventions and Unity Catalog compatibility guidelines.
  • Data Quality & Issue Management
  • Assist in authoring and refining DQ rules tied to CDEs, including completeness, validity, consistency, and timeliness dimensions.
  • Partner with data engineers and stewards to document root cause analysis and drive remediation for high-priority DQ findings.
  • Maintain the DQ Issue Lifecycle register and produce periodic quality scorecards for assigned domains.
  • Standards & Documentation
  • Draft and maintain governance artifacts, process flows, naming convention guides, and policy summaries.
  • Document standards, data cleansing rules, and medallion architecture governance controls.
  • Ensure governance documentation reflects current program state and support regular review cycles with the DG Technical Lead and program leadership.


WHAT YOU BRING

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
  • Degree in a technical/analytical field; non-technical degrees considered with strong technical experience
  • 2-4 years of experience in data governance, data management, data quality, or a closely related analytics or data operations role.
  • Hands-on experience with at least one enterprise data catalog platform (Acryl Datahub, Collibra, Alation, Informatica, or equivalent).
  • Working knowledge of SQL for data querying, profiling, and validation in a cloud or warehouse environment (Databricks, Snowflake, Redshift, or similar).
  • Demonstrated ability to write clear, concise business definitions for data attributes and data elements.
  • Experience contributing to or executing data quality monitoring, issue tracking, and remediation workflows.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; comfortable presenting findings and facilitating working sessions with business stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent workstreams with attention to detail and follow-through.
  • Good working knowledge of SDLC and Agile Methodologies (mainly Kanban and Scrum)
  • Interest in learning and using new technologies


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience in the financial services or insurance industry; familiarity with policy, claims, actuarial, or reference data domains is a plus.
  • Familiarity with Unity Catalog (Databricks) or equivalent column-level access controls and asset tagging.
  • Exposure to DAMA-DMBOK or DCAM governance frameworks; CDMP or ADGP certification is a plus.
  • Experience with ServiceNow for issue or ticket management in a data governance context.
  • Prior involvement in a CDE identification, data classification, or privacy/security tagging initiative.
  • Experience supporting a data stewardship program, including steward readiness activities and working-session facilitation.
  • Insurance industry experience
  • Knowledge of Long Term Care, Life and Annuity products


ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

National Range: $96,700 - $145,000

Disclaimer: This role is aligned to a national market-based pay range. Actual compensation will vary based on geographic location, experience, skills, and other job-related factors. In addition to base salary, this role is eligible to participate in a bonus incentive plan. Incentive compensation is based on individual and company performance and is not guaranteed.
