The RoleWe're hiring an experienced Mechanical Project Manager to own commercial mechanical projects from turnover through closeout. You'll be accountable for each job's profitability, schedule, and client relationship, with a target of at least 10% net profit on every project.
You'll work closely with field leadership, estimating, warehouse, finance, and our general contractor, owner, vendor, and subcontractor partners. The right person stays ahead of labor, material, schedule, and risk so problems get solved before they become emergencies.
This is a chance to join a growing company and help shape a stronger project management structure across CT Mechanical.
What You'll DoPlan the work- Review scope, estimates, budgets, drawings, specs, schedules, submittals, and contracts at turnover to spot risks, gaps, and opportunities early.
- Partner with Estimating on turnover and share feedback on scope, constructability, labor planning, vendor pricing, and risk.
- Build and maintain project plans covering labor, materials, equipment, schedule, vendors, subcontractors, and key milestones.
Protect profit- Own each project's financial performance: budget tracking, cost-to-complete, purchasing, and vendor and subcontractor costs.
- Track labor production, material usage, cost trends, and change order exposure, and catch margin fade early enough to correct it.
- Manage change orders from identification through pricing, approval, and tracking.
Support the field- Forecast labor hours and manpower, and maintain a 3-week look-ahead.
- Make sure crews have the information, materials, tools, and equipment they need to work efficiently.
- Coordinate purchasing, equipment procurement, deliveries, warehouse staging, and prefabrication.
- Remove obstacles that slow field teams down.
Communicate and report- Serve as the main point of contact for general contractors, owners, engineers, inspectors, vendors, and subcontractors.
- Keep clients informed, address concerns quickly, and bring solutions when issues come up.
- Coordinate with Asset Management, HR, IT, Estimating, Finance, Warehouse, and Operations.
- Report project metrics to leadership weekly and contribute to leadership meetings.
Close out strong- Manage RFIs, submittals, punch lists, closeout documentation, and purchasing records.
- Handle warranty items and resolve post-completion issues promptly.
- Build relationships that lead to repeat business and branch growth.
What You Bring- 10+ years in commercial HVAC or mechanical construction.
- 3+ years in a management role, such as project management, field leadership, or operations.
- A bachelor's degree, or equivalent trade or industry experience.
- Strong working knowledge of commercial HVAC and mechanical systems: ductwork, piping, equipment installation, controls coordination, and startup.
- Proven experience managing budgets, labor hours, job cost, schedules, change orders, vendors, and subcontractors.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, specifications, schedules, submittals, RFIs, and contract documents.
- Clear communication with field crews, GCs, owners, vendors, and leadership.
- Sound judgment in planning, problem-solving, negotiation, and decision-making.
- A track record of coaching and developing people while holding teams accountable.
- Strong organization and follow-through across multiple projects and deadlines.
- Alignment with our core values and long-term vision.
Nice to Have- Project management experience in healthcare, K-12, higher education, government, industrial, or institutional construction.
- Hands-on experience with HVAC equipment, hydronic and gas piping, sheet metal, mechanical rooms, TAB, and closeout.
- Experience supporting prefabrication, warehouse coordination, equipment procurement, and vendor buyout.
- Comfort with project management, job costing, scheduling, and construction documentation software, plus Microsoft Office.
- Experience leading and developing foremen, apprentices, and field technicians.
What Success Looks LikeYour projects are predictable. You always know where each job stands financially, what the field needs next, and which risks are coming.
Labor is planned, materials are on site, schedules hold, change orders are documented, and customers are never surprised. You earn the trust of the field and leadership because you communicate early, protect profit, and take ownership of the outcome.
