Avis Budget Group is seeking a Lead Engineer to lead the technical effort for our CRO & Experimentation team - build and QA alike - across Web and App for Avis.com and Budget.com. Reporting to the Director, Global CRO & Experimentation, this role owns getting every experiment built and validated correctly, whether that means doing the work directly or coordinating with whoever else is building it - internal IT, the IT/QA team, or 3rd-party delivery partners. This is a lead role: you're accountable for the outcome even when you're not the one at the keyboard.
You will work closely with CRO Managers, designers, analysts, Product Management, and IT/QA - bringing a test-and-learn mindset and strong technical rigor to everything the team builds.
What You'll Do: - Experimentation & Testing
- Lead the build and QA of A/B and multivariate tests across our regions globally
- Build experiment variants based on approved designs across web and app
- Ensure experiments are implemented accurately and tracked correctly from launch, regardless of who executed the work
- Technical Oversight & Coordination
- Build both simple front-end variations and more complex, multi-page or personalization-driven experiences
- Direct and coordinate 3rd-party delivery partners for additional build capacity, ensuring their work meets the same tracking and QA standards as internal builds
- Coordinate with internal IT resources on more complex technical builds as needed
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues with live experiments
- QA Leadership
- Own QA for every experiment - implementing and validating tracking/tagging prior to launch
- Coordinate with the IT/QA team on regression and cross-site testing, leaning on their broader coverage across the full site
- Monitor active experiments for conflicts across concurrent tests
- Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with CRO Managers to align on build priorities and timelines, and on tracking and measurement setup
- Partner with UX and Design to ensure experiments are built to spec
- Support the handoff of successful tests to Product Management for permanent, production-grade implementation
- Continuous Improvement
- Stay up to date with testing platform capabilities, tools, and best practices
- Proactively suggest process or tooling improvements to increase build efficiency and quality
Perks You'll Get: - Access to Medical, Dental, Vision, Life and Disability insurance
- Eligible to elect other voluntary benefits including: Group Auto Insurance, Group Home Insurance, Pet Insurance, Legal Assistance, Identity Theft Protection, FSA, Accident Insurance, Critical Illness Insurance, and additional life insurance coverages
- 401(k) Retirement Plan with company matched contributions
- Full training to learn the business and enhance professional skills
- Employee discounts, including discounted prices on the purchase of Avis/Budget cars
- Access to an Employee Assistance Program for services including counseling, financial and legal consultation, referrals for care service and more
What We're Looking For: - Hands-on experience building A/B and multivariate tests in Adobe Target, Optimizely, or a comparable web testing platform
- Working knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript sufficient to build and troubleshoot front-end experiment variations
- Familiarity with experimentation across both web and app platforms, or strong aptitude to pick up app-based testing approaches
- Experience directing or coordinating the work of other engineers or delivery partners, not just executing solo
- Familiarity with tagging and analytics implementation (e.g., GA4, Adobe Analytics, tag management systems)
- Highly detail-oriented with a strong QA mindset - comfortable owning QA outcomes even when someone else executes the testing or the build
- Comfortable coordinating work across internal teams, Product engineering, and external delivery partners
- Strong organizational skills to manage multiple concurrent experiment builds across regions and platforms
The annual starting salary for this position is between $115,000 - $125,000 annually. Factors that may affect starting pay within this range include geography/market, skills, education, experience, and other qualifications of the successful candidate.
