Full Job Description
Position Summary

The Critical Facilities Lead Engineer serves as the on-site technical and operational authority for all mission-critical infrastructure within the data center. Reporting to the Data Center Manager, this role provides leadership to the site engineering team and ensures safe, compliant, and reliable operation of electrical, mechanical, and life-safety systems. The Lead Engineer oversees daily operations, preventive and corrective maintenance, incident management, and vendor coordination, ensuring all activities meet established SLAs, KPIs, and customer expectations.

Responsibilities

Operational Leadership & Oversight
• Lead and supervise the on-site Technical Operations Team, ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant execution of all maintenance and operational activities.
• Oversee the scheduling, planning, and completion of preventive and reactive maintenance across all electrical, mechanical, and life-safety systems.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for all facility operations, coordinating with internal teams, external vendors, and client stakeholders to resolve issues.
• Act as the High Voltage (HV) Authorized Person, performing isolations, issuing permits, and ensuring all HV work complies with operational procedures.
• Provide on-shift technical coverage and escalation support during critical events and planned interventions.
• Assist in coverage planning and resource allocation to maintain 24/7 operational readiness.

Maintenance Management & Technical Execution
• Ensure complete utilization of the CMMS for work order tracking, incident documentation, and preventive maintenance scheduling.
• Manage third-party service providers, reviewing RAMS, MOPs, and work permits to ensure safety and quality compliance.
• Review and refine SOPs, MOPs, and EOPs to align with site-specific procedures and customer standards.
• Conduct statutory inspections and compliance testing, ensuring timely resolution of all non-conformance findings.
• Support root cause analysis (RCA) following incidents and ensure proper documentation and closure of corrective actions.
• Drive the continuous improvement of maintenance practices and asset reliability through data analysis and lessons learned.

Performance Reporting & Continuous Improvement
• Monitor and analyze site performance metrics, including uptime, incident response, and maintenance compliance, against defined SLAs and KPIs.
• Report variances and KPI fluctuations to internal stakeholders and site leadership in a timely manner, in accordance with client SLA documentation.
• Develop and deliver regular operational status reports to both internal management and client representatives.
• Partner with the Data Center Manager and Operations leadership to identify efficiency improvements and cost-saving initiatives.
• Ensure lessons learned from incidents are captured and communicated across teams to prevent recurrence.

Training, Compliance & Safety Culture
• Enforce adherence to all regulatory, safety, and environmental requirements in line with Salute and client protocols.
• Lead and participate in site safety programs, audits, and emergency preparedness drills.
• Support and mentor Critical Facilities Engineers (I, II, and III) through on-the-job training, technical guidance, and job shadowing.
• Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous learning within the site operations team.

Qualifications
• 5-7 years of experience in mission-critical mechanical and electrical environments, preferably within data center or telecom infrastructure.
• Proven expertise in data center operations, facility management, and high-availability systems.
• In-depth technical knowledge of UPS, generators, cooling systems, and fire/life safety infrastructure.
• Formal electrical training (e.g., City & Guilds) and QQI Level 6 Advanced Craft Certificate (Electrical) or equivalent certification.
• Completion of AP15 training and demonstrated experience as an HV Authorized Person.
• Strong understanding of electrical and mechanical schematics and technical documentation.
• Proficiency with CMMS platforms, maintenance scheduling, and work order management systems.
• Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills with attention to detail and urgency.
• Demonstrated commitment to customer service, safety, and team leadership.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, climb ladders, and safely navigate electrical and mechanical spaces during inspections or maintenance.

Compensation & Benefits Disclosure
The base salary range for this role is $125,000-$140,000/year. This range reflects a good-faith estimate of what we reasonably expect to pay upon hire, based on factors such as skills, experience, education, and market/location. Our comprehensive benefits include health, dental, and vision insurance, Health Savings Account (HSA), gym discount, mental health, Discounted Group Life & AD&D, Discounted Group Short & Long-term Disability, 401(k) retirement matching, PTO/paid holidays, and parental leave. Final compensation will be determined by job-related factors consistent with applicable law.
