Critical Care - CVICU

Pediatric Sub-Specialty Faculty & Rady Children's Health-Orange County, are seeking an Advance Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) for our Critical Care Division to function within the Cardiovascular ICU (CVICU). With demonstrated expertise in pediatric cardiovascular intensive care, the Advanced Practice Provider (APP) will function in an advanced practitioner role as a clinical expert in the management of pediatric cardiac intensive care patients within a family-centered care environment.

Rady Children's Health-Orange County (RCHOC) is a Level I Trauma Hospital with a new, state of the art, 24 bed , stand alone, CVICU with 4 ECMO rooms.

The successful candidate will be a California licensed and certified Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant with at least two years of bedside nursing experience in direct pediatric cardiovascular intensive patient care. The candidate must demonstrate excellent communication skills. At least one year of clinical pediatric Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant experience is required.

Under the direction of the attending CVICU attending and practicing within developed standardized procedures and process protocols, the APP will evaluate, diagnose and treat cardiac medical patients as well as pre- and post-operative/catheterization cardiac patients. Central to the role, the APP will assist in developing and implementing plans of care for all patients in the CVICU. The APP functions in collaboration with a multi-disciplinary cardiac team, while also providing consultation and education to patients and their families.

In 2023 CHOC began a unique collaboration with UCLA Health that will enhance access to world-class pediatric cardiac and cardiothoracic care for children and their families across Southern California. Our joint pediatric heart program, led by Dr. Glen Van Arsdell, will become a leading destination for diagnosing and treating the full spectrum of congenital and acquired heart disease. Together, we will help attract the nation's top experts, while retaining the leading physicians and staff at both of our institutions. We will also partner to advance innovation, research and education.

RCHOC earned the Gold Level CAPE Award from the California Council of Excellence, the only children's hospital in California to ever earn this distinction, and was awarded Magnet designation, the highest honor bestowed to hospitals for nursing excellence. Recognized for extraordinary commitment to high-quality critical care standards, RCHOC's CVICU earned the Beacon Award for Excellence in 2022. RCHOC is also an ELSO Platinum Center of Excellence. CHOC opened its new, state-of-the-art 24-bed CVICU in February 2025.
