Summary:
JOB SUMMARY
The HCap Analyst Program ("the Program") is a new intentional effort between HFHI and HCap to recruit and train early-stage professionals to succeed in mission-driven financial services roles. In this two-year program, participants will support HCap's efforts to attract and deploy capital to create and increase the production of affordable housing and greater community development across the US. The Analyst will possess and develop strong financial, entrepreneurial, program management and analytical skills while providing communications and research to advance housing and community development initiatives and support broader strategic initiatives and operations.

Supporting HCap Directors, the Analyst's primary responsibilities will include financial analysis and modelling, transaction underwriting, portfolio management, investor relations, marketing and communications, and supporting new programmatic initiatives. While the analyst will have broad responsibilities, there will be a primary focus on credit and underwriting.

Participants will receive training designed to foster mission-alignment, understanding of the housing and community development finance sectors, development of technical skills, and other ongoing enrichment. This 2-year program with the potential for a 3rd year to be evaluated at the end of year 2. The Program is committed to diversity and inclusion and encourages diverse candidates to apply.

These positions are strongly preferred to be based at our headquarters office in downtown Atlanta (Remote considered) and involves up to 10% travel within the US.

Key Responsibilities:

Loan Origination and Underwriting (50%)
  • Conduct credit analysis, due diligence and structuring for investment and real estate transaction

- Financial statement analysis

- Project-level analysis and diligence

- Impact analysis

- Term sheet creation
  • Support the creation of written investment memo for internal investment committee
  • Interface with multiple internal and external to support all aspects of deal lifecycle from prospecting through closing
  • Conduct financial modelling of new financial products that are innovative, socially responsible, fiscally responsible and attractive to the investing community.
  • Provide technical assistance, as needed, to potential or current applicants


Portfolio Management (20%)
  • Provide support to Portfolio Management Associate to monitor and provide analysis on the existing loan portfolio
  • Support monthly, quarterly and semi-annual reporting requirements, collateral substitutions and loan prepayments
  • Support investor financial and impact reporting requirements
  • Interface with trustees, paying agents and internal finance to ensure timely and accurate satisfaction of debt service obligations


Research & Analysis (20%)
  • Provide reliable borrower, property, and market-level data by using available third-party and internal resources to conduct research.
  • Support the creation and analysis of models, charts, tables, templates, maps and other resources related to lending and programmatic initiatives
  • Conduct market research, portfolio and impact data analysis related to historical and future lending work in advancing affordable homeownership, racial equity and climate resiliency


General Operations (10%)
  • Develop investor and management presentations and reports as well as support training and educational materials for HFHI affiliates
  • Prospecting and research in support of broader strategic initiatives and new products and programs
  • Financial modelling and budgeting support
  • Assist in the preparation and submission of funding proposals for federal and private programs
  • Other special projects/task as assigned

Minimum Requirements

Education
• Undergraduate (required) in a related field

Years of Related Experience
• 2+ years of relevant experience (including internships)

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• Product Knowledge: Familiarity or interest in CDFI lending, tax credits, impact investing.
• Technical Experience: Experience building models and data analysis; Fluency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word and PowerPoint)

Preferred Requirements
• Preferably with experience in affordable housing, community development, finance, real estate development, nonprofit management or similar.
• Credit training and commercial underwriting experience strongly desired

Location: Remote U.S. - work from anywhere

Employees located near Atlanta, Americus, GA, or Washington, DC offices who are hired in a hybrid capacity report to the office on Tuesdays.

Hiring Range:

The actual salary offered for this role will be based on a variety of factors, including location, internal equity and the candidate's qualifications and professional experience. HFHI offers a competitive, comprehensive benefits package that varies by country and typically includes vacation leave, sick leave, personal days, health insurance options, retirement plan contributions and life insurance. For work locations in the US, the annual hiring range for this position is:
