Underwriter
Role Summary

The Underwriter is responsible for leading credit underwriting and approval execution for new-money transactions, ensuring transactions are well-analyzed, appropriately structured, and compliant with credit policy and governance standards. The role partners closely with Relationship Managers, Portfolio Managers, Credit, Treasury, and third-party advisors to support sound credit decisioning and risk management.
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead underwriting for new money transactions from initial analysis through credit approval
  • Review borrower financial spreads and perform preliminary credit analysis to support prescreen decisions, including assessment of performance trends, leverage, cash flow sustainability, and key credit risks
  • Conduct comprehensive underwriting analysis for new transactions, including cash flow modeling, sensitivity analysis, stress testing, and scenario analysis
  • Perform transaction-specific analysis as required, including property-level analysis, guarantor review, and assessment of structural risks
  • Coordinate and analyze interest rate and hedging assumptions when applicable and incorporate results into credit exposure analysis
  • Prepare loan amortization schedules and repayment profiles aligned with proposed deal structures
  • Develop comprehensive credit approval memoranda clearly articulating transaction structure, key risks, mitigants, and recommendations
  • Validate deal parameters in credit documentation, including approved amounts, funding conditions, total borrower and group exposure, and consistency with credit policy
  • Assess borrower and transaction eligibility relative to credit limits, approval authorities, and governance thresholds, and determine required approval levels
  • Present underwriting analyses and recommendations to CRO/CC and address follow-up questions
  • Review borrower insurance coverage against policy requirements, identify gaps or exceptions, and coordinate with insurance consultants to assess adequacy
  • Interpret third-party insurance reviews, negotiate coverage requirements with clients as needed, and confirm satisfaction of conditions required for deal approval

  • Strong credit judgment and risk assessment capabilities, with the ability to identify, evaluate, and mitigate key risks
  • Ability to write clear, concise, and well-supported credit memoranda
  • Proven ability to drive credit decisioning processes and navigate credit governance and approval frameworks
  • Working knowledge of collateral structures and insurance requirements

CompensationThe expected annual salary for this position is between $120,000 and $160,000 at the start of employment. A salary offer is determined on an individualized basis, taking into consideration factors such as an individual's skills and experience. In addition to base salary, our total rewards package also includes eligibility for an annual bonus, medical, pharmacy, dental, and vision plans, life and disability insurance, employee wellness program, retirement and savings plans with employer contributions, generous holiday and paid time off schedules, parental leave, and tuition reimbursement.
