COLORADO PARKS AND WILDLIFEOur Mission is to perpetuate the wildlife resources of the state, to provide a quality state parks system, and to provide enjoyable and sustainable outdoor recreation opportunities that educate and inspire current and future generations to serve as active stewards of Colorado's natural resources.
The Outdoor Recreation and Lands Branch (RLAD) of the Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) is responsible for providing and/or overseeing the delivery of recreational programs and services statewide, and to manage land use through real estate acquisition and conservation internally and with partnering landowners.
As part of the Colorado Outdoors Strategy (COS, The Strategy), the agency is focused on planning for and investing in actionable plans to balance the conservation and recreational needs throughout Colorado. Colorado's land, water, wildlife, and recreation infrastructure have been strained by climate change and dramatic increases in our State's population, tourism, and outdoor use. The Regional Partnerships Initiative (RPI) is a collection of local and regional coalitions that are designed to plan for and address conservation and recreation challenges specific to their local areas. The RPI leverages partnerships to share planning and mapping resources, best practices and available data, and promote consistency across planning efforts, in alignment with statewide goals. The RPI ensures that decisions are collaborative and represent the interests of all members, including a diverse range of sectors: recreation, conservation, sportspersons, environmental education, industry partners, lands stewardship, agriculture and ranching, Tribes, and government. These coalitions serve as the implementers of the Colorado Outdoors Strategy to protect and enhance Colorado's lands, waters, and ways of life at the intersection of conservation and outdoor recreation interests. The RPI is a crucial component to ensure the COS is actionable, allowing for localized efforts to tackle challenges while still benefiting from the broad, statewide perspective and support.
Description of JobThe Regional Partnerships Initiative is a growing program advancing coordinated planning and strategic actions to drive the successful implementation of Colorado's Outdoors Strategy. Established by the Colorado Outdoor Opportunities Act (HB 26-1008), this position exists to provide tactical execution and coordinate regional implementation of the Colorado Outdoors Strategy. The Regional Partnership Coordinator leads the alignment of regional planning efforts with statewide strategies, fostering relationships and partnerships with diverse stakeholders, providing knowledge and expertise to integrate data and state resources, and advancing priority regional projects for future investment. This position serves as program coordinator, essential to the success and administration of the Regional Partnerships Initiative in their assigned geographic area, supporting coordination and administration of agency investments, including a 5-year $50 million dollar statewide grant program. The position facilitates coordination across CPW and partner organizations in the development and implementation of regional plans and projects to enhance conservation and outdoor recreation, critical to the successful implementation of Colorado's Outdoors Strategy.
Regional Partnerships AdvancementOversees coalition development and operations to align program criteria with division priorities, partner input, and Colorado's Outdoors Strategy. Actively engages diverse stakeholders across conservation, recreation, agriculture, underrepresented communities, local/federal governments, and Tribes. Develops and executes engagement strategies, ensuring strong CPW subject-matter representation. Collaborates with CPW staff (biologists, area wildlife managers, park managers, deputy regional managers) to achieve program goals, clarify shared objectives, and establish work plans. Supports regional grant program execution and manages emerging issues across complex stakeholder networks.
Strategic Regional Planning and ProjectsCoordinates RPI activities to align COS goals, tools, and frameworks with regional planning. Provides technical assistance and best practices to partners, training them on COS data tools, dashboards, and decision-support resources. Leverages relevant plans (e.g., State Wildlife Action Plan, Statewide Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan, Habitat Conservation and Connectivity Plan) to establish metrics for success. Evaluates project outcomes with regional staff and partners to ensure CPW investments achieve expected results, escalating issues as necessary.
Communications and Technical Support Leads high-level communications to raise awareness and foster engagement in regional coalitions. Responsibilities include producing oral presentations, written reports and articles, and materials for multiple online media platforms. Implements the COS communication strategy by capturing success stories and coordinating media efforts across target audiences.
Offers technical expertise regarding grant applications, reporting, and planning tools. Maintains and updates tracking databases for regional partnerships status, funding, survey responses, plans, and partner contacts. Tailors technical data and statewide metrics into accessible presentations and content for regional partnerships based on current industry trends and priorities. Informs COS Resource Hub updates to stay current with regional plans, data, mapping tools, and best practices.
RPI Team MemberSupports the RPI Program team by coordinating grant administration and regional network operations. Shares leadership in staff meetings, agenda development, team goal tracking, and collaborative problem-solving. Provides coverage for team members, supervises assigned temporary staff, including hiring, onboarding, and day-to-day guidance, and manages third party consultants as needed. Supports the Colorado Outdoor Partnership, including leading communications, hosting statewide meetings, and planning events.
