Full Job Description
Location Designation: Hybrid - 1 day per week

Role Overview:

This is a significant officer-level opportunity within New York Life's Compliance department. The AML Compliance Officer will serve as a key member of the AML leadership team - supporting the Enterprise AML Compliance Officer across program strategy, policy, sanctions compliance, transaction monitoring, training, and regulatory readiness, while taking meaningful ownership of key program components. This role is well-suited to a senior compliance professional ready to contribute immediately, work closely with program leadership, and help build a modern, risk-based AML program at New York Life.

What You'll Do:

AML Program Support & Advancement
• Provide close operational and substantive support to the Enterprise AML Compliance Officer, serving as a key resource across day-to-day program execution, strategic initiatives, workflow management, and team coordination; mentor AML analysts and contribute to team development.
• Monitor and interpret developments involving BSA, USA PATRIOT Act, FinCEN, OFAC, SEC, FINRA, state insurance regulations, and other applicable financial crime frameworks; assess implications and recommend program adjustments.
• Support coordination and alignment of AML practices across NYL's business lines, including wealth management and investments, and contribute to program advancement through thoughtful application of technology, AI, and process improvements.

Escalation Review & Case Oversight
• Serve as the first-level escalation point for complex, sensitive, or novel cases - including unusual transaction patterns, potential SAR situations, OFAC hits, and EDD triggers - applying sound judgment and documenting decisions clearly and defensibly.
• Support final SAR review and filing decisions in coordination with the Enterprise AML Compliance Officer; identify themes across escalated cases that may signal broader program or monitoring gaps.

Sanctions, Transaction Monitoring & Alert Program
• Oversee enterprise sanctions compliance, including OFAC screening, sanctions investigations, blocked or rejected transaction reviews, and sanctions risk assessments; monitor emerging sanctions regulatory developments and advise business partners
• Support oversight of the transaction monitoring and alert program, including alert performance review, threshold tuning, and collaboration with data partners on alert refinement; evaluate proposed monitoring enhancements based on enterprise risk, customer behavior, and emerging financial crime threats.
• Help maintain appropriate SLAs for alert review and case management, escalating capacity or quality concerns as needed.

Training Program Ownership
• Own the design, development, and delivery of the enterprise AML training program, including foundational training for all covered employees, advanced typology-based training for analysts incorporating enforcement actions and emerging trends, and business-specific training for wealth management and investments.
• Build and maintain a training calendar, track completion, maintain examination-ready records, and periodically assess and update training effectiveness.

Policy, Risk Assessment & Metrics
• Support the Enterprise AML Compliance Officer in maintaining current, well-organized AML policies and procedures; contribute to the ongoing strengthening of the enterprise and business-specific AML risk assessments; ensure consistent application of documentation standards across the program.
• Support development and maintenance of AML program metrics and internal reporting - including alert volume, case aging, SAR timeliness, and training completion - for presentation to senior management.

Regulatory Readiness & Cross-Functional Relationships
• Lead preparation for and execution of the annual independent assessment, including data gathering, coordination of subject matter expert availability, and management response drafting; maintain program readiness to respond to regulatory inquiries and internal audit requests at any time.
• Build and maintain effective working relationships, including with Legal, Internal Audit, business CCOs, and other compliance functions to ensure coordinated and well-documented program execution.

VAFA
• Support the ongoing development and execution of the Vulnerable Adult Financial Abuse (VAFA) program, including training for business stakeholders, workflow documentation, and case tracking and reporting.

What You'll Bring:

Required
• 8+ years of progressive AML, BSA, OFAC, sanctions, or financial crimes compliance experience within banking, insurance, broker-dealer, investment adviser, or diversified financial services organizations.
• Strong working knowledge of BSA/AML regulatory requirements, including FinCEN rules, OFAC regulations, USA PATRIOT Act Sections 314(a) and 314(b), and SAR filing obligations.
• Demonstrated experience reviewing and making defensible decisions on complex or escalated AML cases; experience performing enterprise AML/BSA risk assessments and translating findings into control enhancements.
• Experience developing and delivering compliance training, including typology-based curriculum; strong written and verbal communication skills, including presenting to senior management and external assessors.
• Ability to manage competing priorities independently, work across functions (technology, data, legal, business compliance), and operate with sound judgment and a strong commitment to program quality.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present clearly and credibly to senior management, business partners, and external assessors.
• Bachelor's degree.

Preferred
• Prior supervisory or people management experience; CAMS certification or equivalent credential.
• Experience supporting life insurance, annuities, broker-dealer, investment adviser, mutual fund, or wealth management businesses.
• Familiarity with VAFA programs, elder financial exploitation frameworks, transaction monitoring systems, or AML technology implementations.
• Advanced degree is a plus.
