JOB SUMMARYThe Coordinator Clinical Informatics serves as the liaison between clinical operations, nursing education, Information Technology, and the Epic team to optimize the use of the electronic health record (EHR). This role promotes safe, efficient, evidence-based practice by supporting Epic education, onboarding, workflow optimization, regulatory compliance, and continuous performance improvement.
The coordinator collaborates with nursing leadership, educators, operational leaders, and interdisciplinary teams to improve clinical workflows, facilitate system adoption, and ensure staff competency with clinical technology.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Other duties may be assigned.
Epic Education & Training• Develop and deliver Epic education for nurses and clinical staff.
• Coordinate Epic training during new employee orientation.
• Support new unit openings, workflow changes, and Epic upgrades.
• Create quick reference guides, tip sheets, videos, and competency materials.
• Provide one-on-one support for clinicians requiring additional assistance.
• Ability to assess end users' understanding and technical skills related to clinical informatics systems.
• Creates end-user reference guides, user manuals, computer web-based learning modules, and other learning aids.
• Teaches end users in a classroom setting in which learner needs are met.
• Designs training methodology and educational strategies that enhance the integration of technology into clinical practice.
Clinical Onboarding • Partner with Professional Practice to ensure Epic education is integrated into orientation.
• Collaborate with Nurse Residency and Fellowship programs.
• Assist new hires in achieving EHR competency before independent practice.
• Support annual competency validation related to Epic workflows.
• Coordinates EMR orientation for staff, students and other required personnel.
• Rounds on clinical units/departments and ensures that learners have adopted new and current systems and addresses their ongoing learning needs.
Clinical Informatics • Serve as the nursing subject matter expert for Epic optimization.
• Evaluate clinical workflows and identify opportunities for improvement.
• Participate in Epic upgrades, testing, validation, and implementation.
• Assist with new functionality rollouts.
• Collaborate with operational leaders to standardize documentation.
Workflow Optimization • Observe clinical workflows to identify inefficiencies.
• Recommend evidence-based workflow improvements.
• Support reduction of documentation burden.
• Participate in Lean or process improvement initiatives.
Quality & Patient Safety • Support regulatory documentation requirements.
• Monitor documentation compliance.
• Partner with Quality, Infection Prevention, Risk Management, and Nursing Leadership
• Assist with quality improvement initiatives utilizing Epic data.
Analytics & Reporting • Assist leaders with Epic reporting and dashboards.
• Analyze documentation trends.
• Utilize Epic reporting tools to identify educational opportunities.
• Support quality metrics and nursing-sensitive indicators.
Change Management • Coordinate communication related to Epic changes.
• Develop educational plans for new workflows.
• Serve as a super user during implementations.
• Provide elbow support during go-lives.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in nursing required. Master's degree preferred (Nursing, Informatics, Education, or Healthcare Administration)
• Minimum 5 years of acute care nursing experience required.
• Minimum 2 years of Epic experience required.
• Licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Florida required.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association.
• Experience educating adult learners.
• Experience participating in system implementations or workflow redesign.
• Project management experience preferred.
• ANCC Nursing Informatics Certification (RN-BC) preferred.
• Epic Credentialed Trainer or Epic Certification (preferred or obtained within 12 months)
• Regulatory and accreditation standards.
• Data interpretation.
• Project coordination.
• Strong presentation and facilitation skills.
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
• Experience with Windows, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, LMS, and Microsoft Project preferred.
