Copeland is looking for a Controls Engineer on our Oil Free Centrifugal development team. Our OFC compressors are sold to system manufacturers in HVAC and Data Center applications. It is a fast-paced and demanding environment as we adjust to customer requests. The main focus of the job will be development of the embedded logic for the compressor controller with additional application development to support testing and data analysis. The job is based in Sidney, OH with some opportunity for remote work.
As a Centrifugal Controls Engineer, you will:- Work safely within office and lab testing environments, holding others to safety standards.
- Create, modify, and test compressor control logic using structured text and function block diagram languages.
- Document control changes in internal specifications and customer manuals.
- Document and track issue and feature requests in GitHub.
- Support application engineers with customer questions and troubleshooting.
- Support DFMEA reviews for controls and control hardware.
- Develop applications to improve data analysis from compressor testing.
- Modify and test compressor HMI application.
- Travel to customer locations for system control support and field troubleshooting (minimal time).
- Support compressor development team on control hardware selection and testing.
- Support power electronics (variable frequency drive) development team with compressor controller and drive interactions.
- Support compressor test team with lab controls and data recording/analysis.
SCHEDULE:This role is hybrid eligible with the requirement to be in office at least three days per week. Colleagues are expected to demonstrate a collaboration first mindset, which is the understanding that teams will work together in-person, and colleagues should be flexible to adjust their hybrid days based on business needs. You will have an opportunity to work with your team and leader to determine when you should be in the office to drive meaningful connections and to best serve our customers.
Required education, experiences & skills:- BS in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering or related discipline.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in industrial controls, application programming, electronics integration, or similar.
- Experience with programming languages (Industrial PLC/DCS, C++, Python, etc.).
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
- Ability to balance multiple projects in fast-paced engineering environment.
- Available to travel up to 10%, including internationally.

Preferred education, experiences & skills:- Embedded controller programming experience.
- Experience in HVACR or Data Center applications.
- Experience with compressors or turbomachinery.
- Test data analysis and processing.
- LabVIEW programming experience.
