As an Controls Design Engineer, you will be part of a global engineering team, responsible for the implementation and technical evaluation of our global data center design standards with a focus on control, automation and electrical power monitoring systems.
As an Engineer in this role, you will work with the Principals and Senior Electrical and Controls Engineers to drive the standardization of designs across the global region in production data centers and resolve open technical issues in the controls space. You will participate in the research and development of new technologies and designs applicable to our products or services. You will be part of a highly creative and efficient design team comprised of Architects, Engineers, and Designers tasked with solving problems and challenging the status quo. As a subject matter expert, you will provide technical guidance, have a direct impact on the design of data center facilities, solve large-scale implementation issues, and be responsible for developing and communicating security design requirements to internal and external project partners.
Key job responsibilities
This position is for an Controls Design Engineer. Key responsibilities and requirements for this role include:
- Produce clear and concise documentation such as detailed design specifications, drawings, white papers, wiring schematics and diagrams, and reports.
- Understand and safeguard implementation of the Global Controls (Electrical and Mechanical) Basis of Design (BoD) by driving standardization in the data center controls designs.
- Development of strategic solutions, which meet or exceed our quality requirements and fall within our budgetary requirements. Capture requirements and turn aspirational company or customer goals into well-defined, achievable and testable specifications and solutions.
- Define project scope and provide technical support for information requests prior to, and during innovation and research and development projects.
- Work with regional vendors and manufacturers to specify the appropriate electrical and mechanical equipment.
- Work on concurrent projects in multiple geographical regions.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 4+ years of relevant work in a data center or other critical environment experience
- 3+ years of experience working with electrical diagrams, single line diagrams, and electrical distribution systems
- 3+ years of experience working with industrial controls systems
- Experience with power monitoring and SCADA systems
- Experience with industrial communication protocols such as Modbus
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field, or 4+ years of relevant discipline work experience
- Experience working with electrical power monitoring systems (EPMS), including platforms such as Eaton Foreseer, Ignition, and Schneider PSO/PME
- Familiarity with utility disturbance monitoring, power quality analysis, and event capture (sag/swell detection, harmonic analysis, transient recording)
- Knowledge of data center facilities infrastructure and operations (PDU, UPS, generators, etc.)
