Job Description:
Job Overview The Controller oversees all accounting and financial operations, including reporting, budgeting, cash flow management, and construction specific processes such as job costing and WIP reporting. This role ensures compliance with GAAP, monitors project profitability, and provides financial insights to support business decisions. The Controller partners with leadership, manages external audits, and leads the accounting team while driving process improvements.
Duties - Oversee all accounting operations including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and month-end close
- Manage job costing, WIP schedules, percentage-of-completion accounting, and project financial reporting
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
- Lead budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management processes
- Ensure compliance with GAAP standards, covenants, and internal controls
- Coordinate annual audits and work directly with external CPA firms and banking partners
- Analyze financial performance and provide recommendations to improve profitability and operational efficiency
- Monitor project costs, labor reporting, subcontractor expenses, and contract billing
- Develop and improve accounting systems, reporting tools, and financial processes
- Partner closely with operational leadership to support strategic decision-making
- Supervise and mentor accounting and payroll staff
Qualifications - 7+ years of accounting/finance experience with at least 3 years in the construction industry
- Strong understanding of construction accounting principles including WIP reporting and job costing
- Experience with ERP/accounting software such as Sage, Foundation, Viewpoint, or similar systems
- Strong analytical, organizational, and leadership skills
- Ability to operate in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
Preferred Experience - CPA designation preferred but not required
- Construction contract management and billing
- Financial modeling and operational analysis
- Experience supporting privately held or growing companies
