Position Summary
Great Basin College (GBC) is seeking an experienced, collaborative, and forward-thinkingController to join our leadership team. Reporting to the Vice President for Finance and Operations (VPFO), the Controller plays a critical role in ensuring the financial integrity, accountability, and strategic stewardship of the College’s resources.

This position provides leadership and oversight for GBC’s financial operations, including Accounting, Disbursements, Student Accounts, Travel, Cashiering, Budgeting, Grant Financial Management, and related business services. The Controller serves as a trusted advisor to senior administration, supports institutional decision-making, and fosters a culture of compliance, accuracy, and service excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership and daily management for all financial operations of the College, ensuring accuracy, transparency, and compliance with federal, state, and NSHE (Nevada System of Higher Education) policies.

  • Supervise and mentor business office staff across areas including accounting, grants, budgeting, travel, accounts payable/receivable, and student financial services.

  • Prepare and oversee annual financial statements and supporting documentation in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).

  • Manage year-end financial close processes and coordinate with external auditors.

  • Oversee internal controls, investment management, cash handling, and financial reporting.

  • Serve as the institutional lead for compliance with purchasing, travel, and fiscal policies.

  • Collaborate with GBC leadership, system administrators, and external partners to ensure fiscal accountability and continuous improvement of financial systems.

  • Participate in system-wide and state-level financial meetings and committees.

Work Environment
The Controller is based on the main Elko campus and works closely with leadership and staff across all GBC locations. Occasional travel to statewide or national meetings is required. The position involves managing multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced, professional environment.

Compensation Grade

Administrative Faculty – D

This is a 12 month “A” contract, 12 month contracts are used for year round programs.

The budgeted salary range for this position is $86,445 - $125,000. Salary is based on relatable education and experience, internal equity and budgets.

Grants-in-aid for Faculty Employees

Great Basin College is proud to provide a reduced-rate tuition benefit to faculty and qualified dependents. Faculty can take up to six credits per semester at a reduced rate. Dependents of faculty have unlimited credits, but in order to be eligible children must be unmarried and under the age of 24 and must receive at least 50% of their financial support from the employee and/or employee’s spouse or domestic partner.

Newly hired faculty must assure that their official transcripts are sent by the degree granting institution(s) to Great Basin College Human Resources Office within 30 days from the effective date of employment.  Regionally accredited institutions must have awarded academic degrees.

If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet qualification requirements, you must show that your education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.  Any expense related to the evaluation will be the responsibility of the candidate.
