About the RoleREPORTING STRUCTURE
This role reports directly to the Senior Manager, Accounting and works closely with the broader Finance and Accounting team.
ABOUT THE ROLE
We are seeking a detail-oriented Accountant to take over the Controller functions of the Finance and Accounting Department, while also supporting its day-to-day responsibilities. This role focuses primarily on e-commerce revenue accounting and inventory accounting functions and plays an important part in maintaining the accuracy and integrity of our financial records.
This is a build role, not a maintenance one. Alongside the recurring close work, you will be expected to look backward as well as forward - tracing historical entries to understand what was recorded incorrectly and why, correcting it, and then putting the processes and documentation in place so it does not happen again.
This is a great opportunity for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, enjoys problem-solving, and is looking to collaborate with a finance team at a dynamic consumer brand.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Own the accounting of the e-commerce revenue stream, including revenue recognition, sales tax considerations, and daily or weekly cash reconciliation.
- Manage accounting functions surrounding inventory, including inventory costing, valuation, and count reconciliation across channels.
- Own reconciliations, accruals, and prepaids, making sure every entry lands correctly on both the P&L and the balance sheet.
- Investigate and remediate historical records: work back through prior periods to determine what was recorded incorrectly, why it happened, and how to correct it.
- Assist with the month-end and quarter-end close process, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and variance analysis.
- Develop and implement accounting procedures: analyze existing workflows, stand up SOPs, approval flows, PO and payment processes, and vendor audits, then train cross-functional partners on all of it.
- Analyze large transactional datasets to surface patterns, anomalies, and trends that inform how the business reports and operates.
- Research and interpret financial data to answer accounting and financial questions as they arise, escalating complex issues as appropriate.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with teams such as Operations, Supply Chain, and E-Commerce to support accurate financial reporting.
- Support additional accounting, financial, or administrative tasks as assigned by the Senior Manager, Accounting or Controller.
WHAT YOU BRING
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field; equivalent work experience considered.
- 5+ years of experience in an accounting-related role; e-commerce and inventory accounting strongly preferred.
- Genuine balance sheet depth. Fluency with reconciliations, accruals, and prepaids, and a real understanding of how a given entry flows through both the P&L and the balance sheet. This is not a transactional AP or bookkeeping role.
- A forensic instinct. Demonstrated ability to go back through historical data, work out what was recorded incorrectly and why, and fix it - not just flag it.
- Rebuild experience, not maintenance. Has stood up or restructured an accounting function rather than kept an existing one running: SOPs, approval flows, PO and payment processes, vendor audits, and training people on all of it.
- Large datasets and an analytics mindset. Comfortable working across high volumes of transactional data and drawing conclusions from it, not just processing it.
- US company experience. Time at a US-based business, including responsibility for US reporting.
- Tenure. A track record of staying somewhere and seeing work through, rather than a series of short stints.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, and financial modeling.
- ERP system experience required; NetSuite strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with GAAP and standard accounting practices.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities, work independently, and meet deadlines consistently.
- Clear and professional communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams.
