CONTROL SYSTEMS MANAGER
JOB SUMMARY

We are seeking a highly skilled Control Systems Manager tolead the automation, operational technology, and advanced process controlstrategy for our air separation plants. In this role, you will lead a team ofautomation engineers, manage complex engineering projects from conception tocompletion, and ensure maximum system uptime, safety, and operationalefficiency. The ideal candidate blends deep technical expertise in PLC/SCADAprogramming with strong leadership capabilities to drive continuous improvementand technological innovation across our facilities. This role is based out ofthe Irving, TX office.
Essential Functions
Direct a multidisciplinary automation team, providing mentorship and technical direction across plant controls, project engineering, operational technology (OT), and advanced process control (APC).
Establish and enforce company-wide standards for PLC/SCADA programming, code management, and engineering documentation across the plant fleet.
Manage department logistics, including setting key performance indicators (KPIs), estimating capital project budgets, and managing specialized external vendors or system integrators.
Support 24/7/365 continuous plant operations by ensuring all control system needs are met and minimizing production downtime, while leading full root-cause investigations into any control system failures or anomalies to implement corrective actions and prevent future occurrences.
Govern plant Operational Technology (OT) infrastructure by ensuring high availability, robust data historization, and strict adherence to safety codes, industry standards, and corporate cybersecurity protocols.
Orchestrate modernization and automation CapEx projects by identifying obsolete or underperforming legacy hardware, networks, and software applications, and directing controls project engineers from early-stage architecture design through final commissioning to deliver upgrades smoothly, on time, within budget, and to the correct scope via extensive cross-functional coordination.
Oversee and maintain upgrades of departmental and corporate business systems like maintenance programs, electronic management of change systems, inventory management systems, etc.
Drive plant energy efficiency and performance optimization by guiding the development and deployment of Advanced Process Control (APC), while actively pursuing AI systems, new automation technologies, and digital transformation projects.
Enforce strict Management of Change (MOC) protocols for all control system modifications, ensuring thorough risk assessment, documentation, and pre-commissioning safety reviews are completed prior to implementation.
Maintain the validated state of plant control systems, ensuring all software, hardware, and logic changes comply with medical product manufacturing regulations and quality standards.
Collaborate cross-functionally with operations, safety, quality and engineering teams to align automation strategies with global business goals.
Assist with Corporate cybersecurity initiatives such as working with IT and our European and Asian partners to develop OT protocols for all operations related groups.
Coordinate with team to preserve control system backups and manage annual funding for operational licenses critical to operations.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education
Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an ABET-accrediteduniversity (Electrical, Chemical, Automation/Control Systems, Mechanical, orclosely related technical discipline) OR 10 years of equivalent control systemsproject engineering experience is preferred

Work Experience8+ years of progressive experience in industrial automation,control systems engineering, or operational technology within acontinuous-process manufacturing environment is required
3+ years of Direct people management or formal teamleadership experience, with a proven track record of developing and mentoringmultidisciplinary engineering teams is preferred
5+ years of Demonstrated track record of successfullymanaging automation capital projects (CapEx) from design through finalcommissioning is preferred
5+ years of Strong background in process optimization, withexposure to Advanced Process Control (APC), multivariable optimization, ordigital transformation/AI systems integration is preferred
5+ years of Experience with air separation units, includingcompressors, turbomachinery and distillation columns is preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Deep understanding of SCADA and DCS architectures, including platforms such as Siemens WinCC, Simatic HMIs, Inductive Automation, Ignition, and data historization systems.
Strong technical proficiency in PLC systems, including Siemens Simatic S7, Allen-Bradley, and related industrial automation hardware/logic.
Expert knowledge of Management of Change (MOC) processes and rigid change-control frameworks within strictly regulated manufacturing environments (such as medical-grade product validation or FDA compliance).
Deep understanding of control system validation protocols (IQ/OQ/PQ) required to maintain a validated state for software, hardware, and logic modifications.
Familiarity with industrial Operational Technology (OT) infrastructure, network topologies, industrial cybersecurity protocols, and safety codes.
Knowledge of process optimization concepts, including Advanced Process Control (APC), multivariable optimization, and emerging technologies like AI or digital transformation tools.
Advanced knowledge of all Microsoft Tools such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Project and Power BI
Familiarity with ASU-specific equipment like turbo-expanders, cryogenic pumps, and adsorption pretreatment units.
Exceptional leadership and communication skills, with the ability to orchestrate extensive cross-functional coordination and manage project constraints (time, budget, and scope).

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORKING CONDITIONSWorking Condition: Thisrole will be performed primarily in an office environment, requiring extensivedaily usage of a computer, and other office equipment.
Working Condition: Thisrole supports 24/7 operations and requires occasional night and/or weekendremote support.
Working Condition: FieldCoverage will potentially occur wherever Matheson has a facility, and duringany season.
Physical Demands: Occasionallylift and/or move objects up to 50 pounds.
Physical Demands: Specificvision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, depthperceptions, and the ability to adjust focus.
Working Condition: Thisrole will be performed in office environments as well as in industrial fieldenvironments. While performing duties of this job it would occasionally berequired to:
