Contracting Director
What you will be doing:The Contracting Director is responsible for sourcing and management for the portfolio of contracts within an assigned service line, which will include multiple strategic contracts or relationships. Specifically, Directors will be responsible for
- Strategic Supplier Relationship Management
- Negotiations
- Contract Operational and Financial Management (strategic suppliers)
- Creating short term strategy and developing plans on how the department will support strategic initiatives
- May also play a leading role in managing capital acquisitions, working with internal/external partners regarding capital procurements at the planning, budgeting project, contract and transactional levels
Key ResponsibilitiesStrategic Relationship Management - 15%
- Manage supplier relationships, contracts, and contract categories for large and strategic suppliers.
- Resolve supplier related issues regarding contracting activities.
- Remain point of contact for the Supplier to Premier and vice versa.
- Conduct regular Business Line Reviews with key suppliers.
- Develop supplier performance metrics and own supplier relationship management
- Provide strategic and operational updates for key suppliers.
- Work with counterparts at key supplier organizations to maximize the benefits realized from the ongoing relationship.
- Evaluate the positioning of contracts in the marketplace and work with the supplier to enhance Premier's offerings.
Negotiations - 35%
- Conducts negotiation meetings with suppliers, ensures standardization of processes and deliverables.
- Sourcing Committees, shares subject matter expertise, and develops and mentors department staff.
- Responsibility for managing the competitive sourcing process related to optimum contract pricing, terms, and conditions for assigned categories.
Contract Operational and Financial Management - 35%
- Serve as a subject matter expert for contract management processes/negotiations
- Conducts negotiation meetings with suppliers, ensures standardization of processes and deliverables to Sourcing Committees, shares subject matter expertise, develops and mentors department staff.
- Responsibility for managing the competitive sourcing process related to optimum contract pricing, terms, and conditions for assigned categories and systems. Provide guidance to staff on contract management inquiries to share knowledge and expertise.
- Serve as the single point of contact for the contract and responding to questions from Premier's field team and member hospitals
- Review and analyze complex supplier sales data.
- Assist in training new suppliers on Premier policies and procedures.
- Manage the amendment process. Able to create complex amendments without guidance from the Service Line leader, while ensuring contract modifications are in the best interest of Premier and its Members.
- Accurately forecast administrative fees for contracts & service line.
- Ensure supplier compliance with sales reporting and fee payment
- Monitor accounts receivable for portfolio.
- Monitor contract usage to maximize Premier administrative fees
- Routinely negotiate with suppliers to increase contract value via mitigation of price increases, price decreases, expansion of classes of trade, or other contract value.
- Develop strategic initiatives to increase contract revenue
- Provide strategic input and develop short term strategy for the department.
Staff Management - 15%
- Manage Service Line contracting staff
- Plan and distribute workload appropriately (assign responsibility for suppliers/contracts/categories across team), to ensure the right talent is handling appropriate projects to ensure the success of both tactical and strategic initiatives.
- Provide guidance to staff on projects and initiatives to ensure support of short term and long-term strategies.
Required QualificationsWork Experience:
Years of Applicable Experience - 7 or more years
Education:
Bachelors (Required)
Preferred QualificationsSkills:
- Strategic Sourcing, Contracting, Distribution and Vendor Program Management
- Data Analysis
- Data Mining
- Accounting principles, cost analysis, budgeting, forecasting, market and supplier research and analysis
- Proficient in Excel, Word and standard computer programs
Experience:
- High dollar volume contracts ($>100 million in annual sales) for complex products and/or services.
- Experience managing contractual relationships with multiple Fortune 500 level suppliers.
- Experience supporting internal or external customers
- Experience using databases/data warehouses to mine data
- Healthcare and/or GPO contract negotiations and management
- 5+ years in a managerial capacity
Education:
- Master's degree in business administration, computer science or other related discipline

Premier's compensation philosophy is to ensure that compensation is reasonable, equitable, and competitive in order to attract and retain talented and highly skilled employees. Premier's internal salary range for this role is $113,000 - $188,000. Final salary is dependent upon several market factors including, but not limited to, departmental budgets, internal equity, education, unique skills/experience, and geographic location. Premier utilizes a wide-range salary structure to allow base salary flexibility within our ranges.
