Full Job Description
The Role:

IFM is looking for a Content Marketing and Editorial Director to shape the editorial vision and content strategy for IFM. This role will not only lead how IFM communicates its research, Foundational Models and World Models to AI developers, AI industry influencers press, creators, policymakers, and the broader AI community, but also identify emerging trends that help IFM participate at the center of the AI conversation.

This is a hands-on role: part strategist, part editor, part publisher. You'll set the narrative, build the processes behind it, and personally shape the flagship pieces that help build the IFM brand.

This role is about creating content aligned to IFM's business objectives with responsibilities covering research "mining" and storytelling, owned channel and content development for launch communications, and thought leadership, community building and forming a point of view that earns the attention of our audience. You'll need to be comfortable translating dense technical work into content that's rigorous enough for experts and clear enough for a broader audience.

The role is based in our beautiful new Sunnyvale, CA office.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and own the editorial voice, calendar and content strategy end-to-end for a deeply technical lab, from long-form narrative to short-form content.
  • Build relationships and partner with IFM engineers so you can sit with them and pull a sharp story out of potentially dense technical work.
  • Own the editorial pipeline - Build and run the content engine. Owns the systems behind the work: how ideas are generated, prioritized, produced and distributed across formats.
  • Push the work past the page. Build a video and multimedia approach where a brand story, a conference clip, and a long-form report all reach an audience in a way that is appropriate.
  • Oversee IFM's owned channels (blog, social, YouTube, and potential new channels) and align them with the website/visual design function.
  • Manage a social media manager
  • Partner with Communications Lead, Research and Product to shape how new models, benchmarks, and demos are communicated via IFM's owned channels
  • Must be able to collaborate across a team.
  • Work cross functionally on an annual IFM flagship research report - coordinating with research teams, setting methodology-transparency standards, and managing the report from data to publication.
  • Build out a freelance writing team over time
  • Track metrics

Qualifications
  • 8-10 years in content marketing, or research communications, ideally with some exposure to technical/scientific fields (AI, ML, or adjacent deep tech).
  • A track record of developing credible, well-sourced long-form content - reports, indices, technical blog posts, as well as short-form content.
  • Experience working directly with researchers or engineers to translate technical work for a broader audience.
  • Work with a a bias toward action.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills; comfortable being the last read on anything IFM publishes externally.
  • Passionate about technology, AI, Open Source-intellectually curious and always learning.
