Job Description

Wood is searching for a ConsultantVibration Engineer to join our Vibration, Dynamics and Noise (VDN) group. The preference would be for this individual to sit in our Houston, TX or Calgary, AB office, but we will consider qualified applicants in other locations in North America.

This is a technically challenging role solving complex vibration, fatigue, transients, or integrity related problems for our clients. You would be joining a team of world experts in Flow Induced Vibration, Acoustic Induced Vibration and Finite Element Analysis, dynamic stress and fatigue. We are especially interested in candidates with experience in hydraulic transient analysis. This is a client facing role with responsibilities in opportunity development with clients, proposals generation, project delivery and raising the profile of the Wood VDN team.

This is a great opportunity to make an impression in a growing, global organization. A strong communicator, with client-facing experience and a keen interest in vibration will thrive in this environment.

In our recruitment and hiring process at Wood Canada Ltd., we want to emphasize that we do not employ artificial intelligence or automated systems to screen or select candidates. We are committed to ensuring fairness and inclusivity by relying on the expertise from a team of professional recruiters for the application reviews, interviews, and qualification assessments.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct detailed computational analysis: dynamic modelling, piping stress analysis, piping modal analysis, acoustic analysis, flow-induced (Strouhal) pulsation studies, forced response analysis, water hammer (transient) analysis, fatigue analysis, small bore branch connection evaluation and others
  • Act as a client focal point for projects involving both troubleshooting problems on existing facilities as well as design studies for new facilities
  • Undertake the required technical aspects as required as well as lead other team members in delivering larger scale projects (including interaction and support from other vibration and CFD specialists as required)
  • Perform pipework design and field studies (analysis) for new or existing facilities.
  • Pipework vibration studies across various process systems. This involves pipework vibrations analysis using Energy Institute methods, field troubleshooting and field visual inspection. The field troubleshooting can entail vibration and strain measurements on client facilities to assist in identifying sources of failures.
  • Pro-actively share knowledge within the team, plus lead and contribute to ongoing improvement of technical delivery methodologies and procedures
  • Display effective consultancy skills within the team in the office and on site as required. These include client engagement, problem solving, self starter, enthusiasm, effective time and project management, planning, good communications, excellent technical delivery and an enthusiastic outlook
  • Prepare timely and accurate technical reports to professional standards
  • The work will involve commercial software such as ANSYS software, CAESAR II, AutoCad, Solidworks, AFT Impulse, Bosfluids and others. The computer modelling will also involve Wood VDN's proprietary modelling software
  • Implement and adhere to Wood VDN EH&S policy at all work sites
  • Proven track record in communication and client interactions
  • Establish and maintain strong working relationships with customers and colleagues

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering preferred; other disciplines with relevant (vibration analysis) experience will be considered.

  • Minimum of 3 years industry experience in Engineering consulting firm; industry experience in piping vibration analysis highly desirable
  • Strong interest in vibration, fatigue, integrity management, reliability, and design
  • Experience using Finite Element, Acoustical simulation, hydraulic transient simulation software and SolidWorks (or similar computational software is highly desirable)
  • Ability to read P&ID, PFD, HMB, and piping isometrics is an asset.
  • Experience with process and hydraulic calculations
  • Although the role is not a site based role, willingness to occasionally visit customer facilities to perform testing and measurement would be valued. This will require carrying up to 50 pounds of measurement equipment, and potentially working on elevated platforms, scaffolding or other work areas
  • Excellent communication skills (written and spoken) with the ability to speak directly to the issue and to adapt to work environment and customers' communication style
