Job Summary

The Consultant, Cloud Architecture provides enterprise-level technical leadership for the design, governance, modernization, and optimization of Microsoft 365 and Azure cloud services. Develops cloud architecture strategies, roadmaps, standards, and secure, scalable solutions that support clinical and business operations across the organization. Partners with Information Technology, Cybersecurity, Compliance, business stakeholders, and external vendors to lead complex cloud transformations, integrations, migrations, and platform improvements while ensuring reliability, resiliency, regulatory compliance, and cost-effective service delivery.

Essential Functions

  • Develops and maintains the enterprise Microsoft 365 architecture roadmap, target-state architecture, technical standards, and reference designs.
  • Leads architectural decisions related to Microsoft 365 modernization, tenant design, cloud migration, hybrid integration, and digital workplace initiatives.
  • Evaluates emerging Microsoft capabilities and develops recommendations, adoption plans, and architectural guardrails aligned with organizational priorities.
  • Provides technical leadership for Microsoft 365 licensing, service lifecycle, platform governance, capacity, availability, resiliency, and cost optimization.
  • Designs enterprise solutions across Exchange Online, Microsoft Teams, SharePoint Online, OneDrive, Microsoft Viva, Microsoft Power Platform, and Microsoft Copilot for Microsoft 365.
  • Architects Microsoft Entra ID integrations, authentication patterns, single sign-on, identity lifecycle, business-to-business collaboration, and integration with third-party applications.
  • Designs endpoint management solutions using Microsoft Intune, Windows Autopilot, mobile device management, mobile application management, device compliance, and bring-your-own-device strategies.
  • Develops architecture for Teams Voice, Teams Rooms, virtual desktop services, knowledge management, document collaboration, workflow automation, and secure external collaboration.
  • Incorporates security-by-design, Zero Trust principles, conditional access, multifactor authentication, privileged access, data protection, retention, eDiscovery, and secure collaboration requirements into platform architecture.
  • Partners with Cybersecurity and Compliance to ensure architecture aligns with HIPAA, HITECH, applicable CMS and Joint Commission requirements, NIST guidance, CIS benchmarks, and organizational policies.
  • Develops service monitoring, backup, recovery, business continuity, and disaster recovery strategies for Microsoft 365 services.
  • Supports tenant-to-tenant migrations, acquisitions, divestitures, and complex integration initiatives.
  • Leads the technical design of enterprise Microsoft cloud initiatives and provides architectural oversight through implementation and transition to operations.
  • Creates and maintains architecture diagrams, standards, decision records, implementation patterns, and operational guidance.
  • Mentors engineers and administrators and provides escalation support for complex platform design and performance issues.
  • Collaborates with Microsoft, implementation partners, and strategic vendors to resolve complex issues and advance platform capabilities.

Qualifications

Education

Licenses/Certifications

  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert, Cybersecurity Architect Expert, or comparable Microsoft certification (Preferred)
  • CISSP, CCSP, ITIL, or other relevant architecture, security, or service management certification (Preferred)
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft 365, Microsoft Azure, Microsoft Entra ID, Exchange Online, Microsoft Teams, SharePoint Online, OneDrive, Microsoft Intune, Microsoft Purview, and Microsoft Defender technologies Preferred
  • Advanced knowledge of PowerShell, Microsoft Graph API, Azure Automation, Windows Server, Active Directory, DNS, public key infrastructure, and networking fundamentals Preferred

Experience

  • 7-9 years progressive enterprise infrastructure, cloud, or Microsoft platform experience (Required) With
  • 5+ years designing Microsoft 365 solutions in a large, complex environment (Required)
  • Prior Experience developing enterprise architecture, technical standards, and roadmaps for Microsoft 365 and Azure services (Required)
  • Prior Experience with hybrid identity, cloud migrations, tenant governance, endpoint management, automation, and enterprise collaboration technologies (Required)
  • Prior Experience leading major platform implementations or transformation initiatives involving multiple technical and business stakeholders (Required)
  • Prior Experience in healthcare or another highly regulated, multi-site environment (Preferred)
