We are seeking a
Construction Supervisor - Controls / Automation to lead the field installation, integration, and verification of advanced building management systems (BMS), programmable logic controllers (PLCs), direct digital controls (DDC), field instrumentation, control panels, and networks supporting mission-critical data center infrastructure. In this hands-on leadership role, you will direct field personnel and subcontractors, coordinate across mechanical, electrical, controls, and commissioning disciplines, lead point-to-point checkout and functional testing, and support final commissioning and integrated systems testing. Job requirements - Journeyman Electrician License.
- High school diploma or equivalent; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Automation, Construction Management, or related field preferred.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in commercial or industrial building automation and controls, including at least 2 years of experience leading crews, coordinating field activities, or serving in a supervisory capacity.
- Demonstrated experience supervising the installation and integration of controls and automation systems in commercial, industrial, or mission-critical environments. Experience with data centers, complex HVAC systems, liquid-cooling infrastructure, power distribution, or central utility plants is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of industrial control systems, network architecture, field instrumentation, and communication protocols such as BACnet, Modbus, LonWorks, Profibus, and EtherNet/IP.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting electrical schematics, P&IDs, control drawings, sequences of operations, input/output point lists, and manufacturer specifications.
- Working knowledge of applicable industry codes and standards, including NEC, UL, ASHRAE, ISA, and NFPA requirements.
- Strong understanding of loop tuning, signal calibration, point-to-point verification, network troubleshooting, and automated system integration.
- Ability to plan daily manpower, coordinate access and work sequencing with mechanical and electrical trades, and manage daily and weekly production targets.
- OSHA 30 certification required; First Aid/CPR, competent-person, fall-protection, and NFPA 70E electrical safety certifications are preferred.
- Relevant controls certifications, such as Niagara 4 certification, PLC programming credentials, or equivalent manufacturer or trade qualifications, are preferred.
- Strong leadership, communication, documentation, and conflict-resolution skills, with the ability to lead field personnel, coordinate subcontractors, and manage daily priorities in a fast-paced construction environment.
- High attention to detail with a practical, solutions-oriented approach to field quality, software and hardware integration, and constructability issues.
Other Important Requirements: - Pre-employment screening, including background check and substance testing may be required according to company policies.
- Must provide own steel-toed work boots; other PPE will be supplied.
- Must be able to reliably commute to the work site daily or have plans to relocate before starting work.
- Must be comfortable working a rotational schedule, which includes day and night shifts as well as weekend work, based on project needs.
- Employees working night shifts will receive a 15% premium added to their hourly rate only for hours worked during night shifts.
Job responsibilities - Lead, mentor, and supervise controls technicians, integration specialists, and subcontractors while coordinating with vendor engineers performing automation work across the project.
- Plan daily activities, assign crews, coordinate access with other trades, and monitor productivity to achieve project milestones safely and on schedule.
- Oversee the installation, wiring, termination, and mounting of control panels, PLCs, DDC controllers, sensors, meters, valves, actuators, and network hardware.
- Review control schematics, network architectures, point lists, sequences of operations, and approved submittals for constructability and field readiness; identify discrepancies and escalate them to controls engineering.
- Coordinate with mechanical and electrical teams to verify that required preliminary testing, flushing, inspections, and system-readiness activities are complete before point-to-point checkout begins.
- Direct and verify point-to-point checks, signal calibration, loop tuning, and functional testing of hardware and software control loops.
- Ensure organized cable routing, proper wire labeling, shielding continuity, grounding compliance, and panel cleanliness.
- Coordinate automation sequencing and physical interfaces with mechanical, piping, HVAC, liquid-cooling, electrical, fire-protection, structural, and other project disciplines.
- Collaborate with controls engineers, software vendors, and commissioning authorities to resolve integration bottlenecks, network conflicts, and logic anomalies.
- Support first-work inspections, mockups, Inspection and Test Plans, quality hold points, and routine field inspections to confirm compliance with approved drawings and sequences of operations.
- Identify, document, and correct wiring errors, faulty hardware, communication failures, and nonconforming installation practices; manage punch-list items and verify closure before turnover.
- Support final commissioning, integrated systems testing, and data center black-site testing by troubleshooting active control loops and monitoring real-time system data.
- Coordinate controls material and hardware deliveries, secure storage, handling, and inventory to prevent damage, theft, or moisture exposure.
- Track installed quantities, manpower, productivity, network completion, and progress against established milestones; provide accurate daily and weekly updates to construction management.
- Enforce OSHA regulations, NFPA 70E requirements, and safe work practices around electrical panels, control circuits, scaffolds, ladders, and aerial lifts. Ensure energized work is performed only by qualified personnel under approved procedures.
- Lead pre-task planning, Job Hazard Analyses, toolbox talks, and field safety observations; participate in incident and near-miss investigations and ensure assigned corrective actions are completed.
- Maintain daily reports, calibration logs, network as-builts, redlines, and software backup documentation required for system turnover and facility handover.
- Support vendor- and engineering-led training for site personnel and operations teams on approved panel troubleshooting, hardware layouts, system controls, and emergency override procedures.
- Ensure approved automation sequences and control strategies are properly implemented to support system reliability, energy efficiency, power usage effectiveness, and high-density cooling performance.

Compensation - The expected hourly rate for this role starts at $59.00 U SD.
- Actual compensation will be determined based on factors such as experience, qualifications.
- Per Diem amount of $180.00 and project allowance, when applicable
- 15% night-shift premium for eligible roles, when applicable
- Overtime compensation for non-exempt workers for hours worked over 40 per week
