In order to be considered for this position candidate must be serving permanently in the title of Administrative Inspector (Electrical), or must have filed for the Open - Competitive Administrative Inspector (Electrical) Exam #2071, and provide proof of filing.
The Division of Traffic Operations' Electrical Inspection Unit seeks to hire an Administrative Inspector (Electrical). The successful candidate will supervise a citywide team of Electrical Inspectors responsible for a large scale electrical inspection program to upgrade all traffic controlled intersections to be APS ready. The position conducts layouts and surveys for thousands of traffic intersections and coordinates with other city agencies to relocate street furniture and numerous components attached to traffic signal and street lighting poles.
The Administrative Inspector will conduct monthly meetings with construction contractors, monitor the use of City equipment and contractor inventory, and ensure that only approved materials are used on the project. In the absence of the Administrative Electrical Inspectors (Borough Chiefs), may step in to manage borough operations. The successful candidate will review contractor progress reports and inspector field reports, evaluate street conditions, and establish priorities for inspectors to complete work in accordance with Department specifications. The role also includes coordinating and inspecting attachments by authorized users of equipment under the authority of NYCDOT.
Some assignments may require a driver's license. Preference will be given to candidate who possess a driver's license valid in the state of New York with no restrictions. This license must be maintained throughout the duration of appointment in this position.
ADMIN INSPECTOR (ELECTRICAL)NM - 1007B
1. Seven years of full-time satisfactory experience as an electrician, designer, or inspector of electrical installations for light, heat and/or power distribution, traffic signals, fire alarm detection or communication systems, at least eighteen months of which must have been in a managerial, administrative or supervisory capacity; or
2. Five years of experience as described in "1" above, at least 18 months of which must have been in a managerial, administrative or supervisory capacity and one of the following: (a) 60 credits towards a degree in electrical engineering or electrical engineering technology from an accredited college or university; or (b) Two years of full-time training in an acceptable electrical program in an accredited technical school; or
3. Completion of an apprentice program, at least three years in length, in the electrical trade or electrical inspection, and either: (a) four years of experience as described in "1" above, or (b) two years of experience as described in "1" above plus either 60 credits or two years of education as described in "2" above.
4. A license as a professional engineer or registered architect issued pursuant to the New York State Education Law, and at least two years of experience as described in "1" above, at least 18 months of which must have been in a managerial, administrative or supervisory capacity; or
5.Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1," "2," or "3" above. All candidates must have at least two years of experience as described in "1" above, at least 18 months of which must have been in a managerial, administrative or supervisory capacity.
