Full Job Description
CONSTRUCTION SUPERINTENDENT/ PROJECT MANAGER

M.T. Laney Co. Inc. is seeking a competent Superintendent/Project Manager with substantial experience in site development to work on the Maryland Eastern Shore/Delaware areas. This includes residential subdivisions, commercial site pads, public works, and infrastructure improvements involving earthwork, underground utilities, stormwater systems, grading, and paving. This role requires a strong understanding of both Site Development Superintendent and Project Manager execution in the civil construction field.

Key Responsibilities

Superintendent Duties
  • Manages and coordinates the work of multiple crews, including subcontractors, as necessary.
  • Ensure project profitability.
  • Ensures employee safety and good morale by consistent application of all HR, safety, and environmental policies while visiting job sites regularly.
  • Work cooperatively with Owners, Foreman, Customers, and Subcontractors.
  • Communicate approved work schedules, overtime, other relevant company information, etc...
  • Monitor and maintain the orderliness of the job site, including compliance with all M.T. Laney and customer safety rules/practices.
  • Maintain regular and open communication with the Project Management Team.
  • Maintain and forecast the project's needed materials accordingly.
  • Other duties as assigned

Project Management Duties
  • Develop and maintain project schedules and budgets.
  • Coordinate all aspects of construction activities with customers, field crews, subcontractors, and suppliers to ensure seamless execution and completion.
  • Attend kickoff meetings and communicate the scope of work.
  • Ensure compliance with local permitting, erosion control, and SWPPP requirements.
  • Conduct pre-construction meetings and regularly inspect the site to monitor safety, cost, quality, and progress.
  • Monitor project progress and adjust plans as needed to ensure timely completion and to control costs.
  • Manage change orders, RFI, submittals, and closeout documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations, permits, and codes.
  • Serve as primary point of contact for clients and inspectors.
  • Track and report on project performance and resolve issues proactively.
  • Manage contractual project requirements, including reviewing payment requests, changes in scope, and requests for information.

Qualifications
  • Must be familiar with reading and understanding civil drawings, including grading, utilities, erosion and sediment controls, and other work performed by site contractors.
  • Strong communication skills (both verbal and written) and ability to work with others
  • The ability to manage crews and subcontractors to deliver the scope within budget and on schedule.
  • Detail-oriented with a strong work ethic
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and manage time and workload
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Valid Driver's license with a good driving record
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check

SALARY/HOURLY EXEMPTION:
  • Full-Time, Exempt Position
  • Salary based on knowledge, experience, and education

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Travel to construction sites (where PPE will be required), pre-bid meetings, client sites, and the corporate office on occasion.

WORKING HOURS/EXPECTATIONS:

This is a salaried position, and the hours and demands are based on the job workload. There is an expectation for someone who can be a self-starter and work independently.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS:
  • Stand and sit for prolonged amounts of time
  • Must be able to drive up to 6 hours a day
  • Walk, bend, kneel, and twist
  • Talk and hear
  • Lift and move up to 75 pounds on occasions

EDUCATION:
  • A degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field is preferred

CERTIFICATIONS:
  • OSHA 30, RPC E&S, SHA Yellow Card (Preferred)

EXPERIENCE:
  • Site Development Construction Superintendent/Project Management 2 Years (Preferred)
