Job Title: ConstructionSite Superintendent

Position Summary

The Construction Site Superintendent is responsible for managing and coordinating the day-to-day production and schedule adherence on the project. The role of the Superintendent will also include important quality control and subcontractor coordination responsibilities. This role is key to implementing and maintaining safety, health, and environmental programs and procedures within the worksite in pursuit of a zero-incident culture. A successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to maintain best practices designed to enhance and improve regulatory compliance, as well as minimize industrial injuries/illness, workers' compensation costs, property damage, and other general liability losses.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (including but not limited to):
  • Coordinates and supervises all construction activities.
  • Directs all field personnel to achieve completion of the project on schedule, within budget, with quality workmanship that conforms to plans and specifications.
  • Maintains construction schedule, identifies and solves problems.
  • Has a thorough knowledge of the plans, drawings, and specifications for each project assigned.
  • Promotes job site safety, encourages safe work practices and rectifies job site hazards immediately.
  • Ensures all workers and subcontractors are adhering to the company safety policy.
  • Maintains an organized job site, including the construction office.
  • Interviews, hires, and trains construction workers
  • Exercises control over rate of construction progress in order to complete construction project within time limits; schedules jobs and operations
  • Estimates materials and manpower needed for specific jobs
  • Leads inspection and commission of day-to-day construction work to enforce conformity to specifications
  • Lead daily plan of the day meetings with construction staff
  • Review the job schedule and cost breakdown, resolving all differences of opinion with Project Manager at the beginning of the job.
  • Maintain a good relationship with the Project Manager, seeking his/her assistance in the scheduling of materials, equipment and subcontractors.
  • Keep the progress schedule current, review schedule status and job costs at least once each month with the Project Manager.
  • Maintain inventory control over tools and equipment, ascertaining that movable tools are returned to the tool room and all other equipment adequately secured.
  • Complete the daily construction report each day, and submit to the Project Manager
  • Attend pre-construction and construction meetings, taking notes on areas that may present a future problem and present to the Project Manager for consultation.
  • Attend, on request, all technical meetings for the purpose of discussing job progress and problem areas.
  • Maintain close communication with Project Manager on any unforeseen problems which may develop.
  • Assist Project Manager in estimating percent completion of each item for monthly invoicing and of labor for each job cost report.

Education, Skills and Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management or Engineering (Preferred)
  • 5 years Construction experience serving as the Site Super, QCM, or PM
  • Experience working for the USACE, NAVFAC, DoE, or DoD (Preferred)
  • Familiar with EM 385-1-1 (Preferred)
  • Experience in hazard identification and safety compliance
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills
  • Sound administrative skills, well-developed management skills.
  • Strong analytical, numerical, and reasoning abilities
  • Problem analysis and problem resolution at both a strategic and functional level
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to establish credibility and be decisive.

  • OSHA 30 Hour Certificate (Preferred)
  • USACE Quality Control Managers Course Certificate (Preferred)
  • Must be able to work weekends and more than 40 hours per week

Physical Demands

Individuals must have the ability to lift 50 pounds. Must be able to remain in a stationary position at least 50% of workday and capability to move within the field. Any person in this position needs the ability to operate any field equipment used within the Construction Industry. There is a requirement to traverse multiple terrain types in outdoor weather conditions along with the ability to position self in a stoop, kneel, or crouch position. Individuals must be able to wear full construction PPE and have ability to enter confined spaces.
