Overview

POSITION: Construction Project Manager – Training & Process Controls

LOCATION: Apache Junction, AZ (In Office)

BASE PAY: $95,000+ (Industry leading total compensation package)

JOB SUMMARY

If you have spent your career running construction projects and you are ready to get off the road, this is that job.

The Construction Project Manager – Training & Process Controls takes everything you learned running work and uses it to develop the people coming up. You will train Field Engineers, Project Engineers, Project Managers, and Superintendents on how to build a budget, manage a forecast, read a cost report, and run a project the WW Clyde way. You will also build the training material, reference guides, and documentation that make that possible.

This position is based in the Apache Junction office and reports to the Director of Project Controls. You will visit project sites regularly, but you will be home at night.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Train and coach Field Engineers, Project Engineers, Project Managers, and Superintendents on company processes, project controls practices, and technology systems.
  • Teach project financials, including budget development, cost forecasting, cost reporting, and month end close. Sit with teams in the work, not just present at them.
  • Build and maintain training materials, reference guides, SOPs, and process documentation. Create what does not exist yet.
  • Lead onboarding for new project personnel and follow up to confirm the training actually took hold.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert on the WW Clyde Project Management Guide and project controls standards.
  • Review month end project reporting for accuracy and use the results to target where training is needed.
  • Analyze budgets and forecasts to spot trends and risks early, and bring findings back to teams as coaching rather than correction.
  • Develop and maintain project control plans covering schedule, budget, forecast, and scope.
  • Build and roll out project reporting tools, including progress reports, budget reports, forecasts, and risk reporting.
  • Oversee new project setup and project closeout, using both as training opportunities.
  • Drive adoption of new processes and systems, and troubleshoot user and system issues when teams get stuck.
  • Build trusted relationships with project teams. Be the person they call before a problem gets big.
  • Partner with fellow Project Controls Managers and department leadership to keep training and process consistent across regions.
  • Model and reinforce WW Clyde's core values: We Value People, Our Word is Our Bond, Always Give a Full Measure, We Continuously Improve.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • Minimum 4-5+ years of construction experience as a Heavy Civil Project Manager, or senior Project Engineer with direct responsibility for running projects.
  • 3+ years of experience working in construction project environments.
  • Hands on ownership of project budgets, forecasts, cost reports, and schedules.
  • Credibility with field and project personnel. You should be comfortable walking onto a job site and holding your own with a Superintendent.
  • Genuine interest in teaching and developing people.
  • Ability to explain complex processes clearly and patiently to people at very different experience levels.
  • Proficiency with spreadsheets, ERP systems, and project management software, with the ability to learn new platforms quickly and then teach them.
  • Willingness to be in the Apache Junction office full time and travel to project sites within the region as needed. Must maintain an insurable driving record.

Preferred

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field.
  • Heavy civil construction background.
  • Experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365, HeavyJob, HeavyBid, Primavera P6, Bluebeam, Power BI, or Smartsheet.
  • Experience mentoring Field Engineers, Project Engineers, or junior Project Managers.
  • Experience building training material, SOPs, or process documentation.
