The Opportunity
We are seeking an Assistant Resident Engineer for our Transportation-Construction Management team in the Tucson, AZ area.
The Assistant Resident Engineer will support the Resident Engineer in managing the construction and inspection of roadway and bridge transportation projects. You'll oversee field inspection staff and contractor operations, prepare and review progress and final estimates, evaluate change orders and claims, review schedules, interpret contract documents, check engineering calculations, and make sure projects are built in reasonable conformity with the plans and specifications. You'll also act as a key point of contact for owners, contractors, and project stakeholders.
This position will work on road and bridge projects for transportation owners. You'll work on a project-specific team as part of RS&H's growing Construction Management organization. Arizona is an emerging market for RS&H Construction Management, and this role has real potential to grow into a future leadership position and help build our presence in the region.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management from an accredited university
- 8 – 10 years of experience with major road or bridge construction. Exceptional candidates with less experience and strong construction management backgrounds will be considered.
- Experience managing construction projects, including contract administration, pay estimates, change orders, and schedule review
- Must obtain any required certifications and pass appropriate qualifications tests for the position in specified time frames
- Strong verbal and written communication skills required
- Valid Driver's License with a good driving record
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office
- Ability to sit, stand, climb, bend, twist, or stoop frequently and for prolonged periods
- Ability to reach horizontally as well as vertically for required tasks
- Ability to use construction or inspection safety equipment including fall protection
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
**Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a permanent basis. This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship or visa transfer.**
Preferred Qualifications:
- Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) strongly preferred. Certified Construction Manager (CCM) or similar credentials will also be considered.
- Experience leading or supervising field inspection staff
- Experience with Design-Bid-Build, Design-Build, CMGC, and other alternative contract delivery methods
- Interest in growing into a leadership role and helping expand a regional Construction Management practice
- OSHA 10 hour
