The Township of Howell is seeking a qualified Construction Official to oversee the administration and enforcement of the New Jersey Uniform Construction Code and related laws, regulations, and Township ordinances. Under the direction of the Township Manager, the Construction Official will supervise the Construction Department, including subcode officials, inspectors, and administrative staff; oversee the review and issuance of construction permits; coordinate building, plumbing, electrical, and fire required inspections; and ensure compliance with approved plans and applicable codes, as well as performing the duties as the Flood Plain Administrator. The position will provide technical guidance to contractors, architects, engineers, attorneys, property owners, and members of the public; coordinate with the Township Attorney, State and other governmental agencies; oversee departmental records, reports, fees, and required State filings; assist with the preparation and administration of the department budget; supervise staff schedules, training, evaluations, and daily operations; and establish procedures to ensure efficient and effective service. The Construction Official will oversee all permits issued by the department, perform field inspections as needed, and perform other related duties as required.
Qualified candidates must possess a valid New Jersey Construction Official License and at least one Sub-Code Official License with the applicable technical license at the HHS level pursuant to N.J.A.C 5:23-5.6. Strong leadership and managerial skills are a must. Experience with SDL is preferred. This is a full-time 35 hour exempt position, Monday through Friday, with a comprehensive medical benefits package. Said position is aligned with the Teamsters bargaining agreement at a grade 34 with a contractual salary range of 98,107-142,973. The position is open until filled.
