Full Job Description
The CMS Project Engineer/Consultant serves as a key leader at the intersection of project delivery, technical oversight, and business growth. This position requires the ability to manage multiple projects, lead technical staff, and ensure consistent delivery of industry-leading services in alignment with SME standards. The role also plays a critical part in expanding SME's local presence and supporting long-term regional growth initiatives.

A primary focus of this position is developing and maintaining strong client relationships through local visibility, responsiveness, and building trust. This team member is expected to contribute to backlog growth, identify new opportunities, and help build a sustainable pipeline of work. Candidates who bring an existing client base or demonstrate the ability to generate business will be highly successful in this role.

From an operational perspective, the CMS Project Engineer/Consultant is responsible for managing projects from planning through execution, including scheduling, resource coordination, quality control, and client communication. The role includes leading site visits, providing technical consultation, and reviewing reports and project deliverables to ensure accuracy and compliance with applicable standards.

This role also includes leadership responsibilities, with a strong emphasis on mentoring and developing staff. They will guide junior and developing team members, helping them build technical skills, project management capabilities, and confidence in field and client-facing environments.

This position is critical to SME's strategy of strengthening our presence in the northern Indiana market. By establishing strong local leadership, the CMS Project Engineer will directly contribute to winning work, executing projects successfully, and building a high-performing team that can scale with regional growth demands.

  • Ability to handle physical demands, such as lifting (up to 50lbs repetitively), walking on uneven ground frequently, and carrying equipment, working in various weather conditions, and traveling to different locations.
