Hybrid work policy: 4 days in office at 900 Third Avenue, New York, NY 10022, with 1 day optional remote. Wednesday is the strongly preferred in-office day, as firm-wide and construction group meetings are held then.
About this roleWhat we're looking for:We need a senior associate with 6-10 years of transactional construction law experience who has worked on design agreements, construction contracts, and access/license agreements on behalf of owners and developers. You should be comfortable operating independently on complex matters with minimal supervision and have a track record of managing files from intake through close with fast turnaround times. Bonus points if you have experience with RPAPL 881 special proceedings (NY access agreement disputes).
What you'll do:- Draft, negotiate, and close construction contracts, design agreements (architect, engineer, consultant), and access/license agreements for institutional owner and developer clients
- Take ownership of a high-volume transactional workbook with turnaround measured in days, not weeks
- Work closely with a 7-person construction practice group, including direct mentorship from a 50+ year practitioner who co-chairs the group
- Handle RPAPL 881 special proceedings - petitioning courts to compel neighboring property owners to grant access for construction or demolition projects
- Manage complex negotiations with adverse counsel on access agreements where neighbors attempt to extract excessive license fees and conditions from developers
- Participate in weekly Wednesday group meetings reviewing active matters and legal issues, and contribute to the firm's marketing and business development efforts over time
