Your Opportunity

The successful candidate will work on challenging and diverse tasks in a consulting construction management role that will require application of technical skills, project delivery, and leadership for construction projects. These projects consist of water pipelines, sitework for municipal water and sewer facilities, sewer lines, infrastructure systems including treatment plants, pump stations, and related infrastructure.

Your Role

The Senior Inspector is expected to take a supporting role and leader of the firm's Construction Management Services (CMS) delivery to our clients and projects. The Senior Inspector is expected to exercise independent judgment, experience, and critical decision-making skills to determine work quality objectives. The Senior Inspector must have a strong understanding of water/wastewater infrastructure engineering and construction, including a thorough understanding of construction project documents, relationships between various project parties, and quality and safety requirements typical for public construction projects and programs.

SUPERVISION
  • Interacts daily with staff and provides information.
  • May make recommendations concerning staff selection, training, evaluation, and discipline.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
  • Provide single-point field inspection of the construction contractor's work representing the Construction Manager in the field.
  • Daily, monitor, inspect and document the construction contractor's work and prepare a comprehensive written Daily Report that includes such observation and description of all work activities, measurement of installed material quantities, an accounting of labor and equipment resources utilized, a statement of general compliance or non-compliance with the work, and supporting video and photographs of the work in progress.
  • Communicate directly, both verbally and written, with construction contractors regarding conformance or non-conformance to standards, plans, specifications, and codes.
  • Ensure Contractor prepares prompt requests for information (RFI's) for questions that may affect the construction schedule. Review project submittals, submittal review comments RFI, and RFI responses and incorporate into the quality control inspection plan.
  • Review, analyze and document any construction issues potentially resulting in a scope, time, or cost impact to the work of the Contractor which may result in a change to the contract.
  • Review and maintain master as built and record drawing information maintained by the construction contractor.
  • Attend, as necessary, Weekly Progress Meetings with Contractor, including review of progress to planned schedule.
  • Develop project specific quality control and quality assurance documents and standards for projects that are under development.
  • Ensure all field testing and inspections are done in accordance with the Contract Documents.
  • Document compliance and non-compliance with established quality control and quality assurance procedures.
  • Work with Construction Manager / Resident Engineer to implement methodology and criteria to resolve any non-compliance notices previously issued.
  • Review and submit all test reports for inclusion in turnover documentation to Owner.
  • Prepare written reports documenting QA/QC inspections, non-compliance notices, and corrective actions.
  • Observe, document, and approve of authorized Force Account change order work performed on a time and materials basis, documenting the use of contractor labor, equipment, and materials.

  • Exercises initiative and independent judgement in adapting and applying procedures to address unusual situations and to resolve issues.
  • Decisions are governed by Company policy, practice, and guidelines.
  • Recommendations are reviewed for soundness of judgment but are accepted as technically accurate and feasible.

COMPLEXITY & ACCOUNTABILITY
  • Assignments are broad and varied in nature requiring sound application of technical codes, standards, and guidelines.
  • Analyzes complex problems, modifies methods, procedures, processes, and proposes new alternative solutions.
  • Work is reviewed in terms of adherence to general policies, accuracy of methods, and general efficiency.

SUPERVISION
  • Works under minimal supervision.
  • Completed work is accepted as technically accurate and is reviewed for adherence to standards and policies.
  • Review the monthly progress pay estimate submitting by the construction contractor to verify requests for payment of materials, percent complete and earned value.
  • Prepare, monitor, and manage a project punch list for deficient or uncompleted work by the construction contractor.

COMPETENCIES, SKILLS & ATTRIBUTES
  • The Senior Construction Inspector will work in a field office at a project site and will be required to work in a manner that ensures personal safety as well as the safety of fellow employees by following project and company health and safety guidelines and policies for planning and executing work in a safe manner.
  • Understand and interpret contract documents and assess plans for a designated Work Package for a specific construction activity.
  • Ability to effectively discuss project issues with clients and contractors.

LICENSURE & CERTIFICATIONS
  • ACI Grade 1 Field Technician
  • ICC Special Inspector
  • AWS
  • NICET III, IV
  • A technical school diploma/certificate in a related program; or equivalent combination of experience and education
  • Minimum of 8-10 years of experience.
  • May have degree in construction management or engineering (civil, mechanical, electrical) or other related engineering field
  • Acquires specific experience through on-the-job construction projects and executing standard tasks.

Pay Range:
• Locations in CO, HI, IL, MD & Various CA, NJ, VA Areas-$111,200.00 - $166,900.00 Annually

Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
