COMPUTATIONAL ELECTROMAGNECTICS RESEARCH SCIENTIST & PROGRAMMER (HITS-R):

 

Bowhead seeks highly skilled and motivated Computational Electromagnetics (CEM) Research Scientist and Programmer to join our advanced modeling and simulation team to support the High Performance Computing Modernization Program (HPCMP) Integrated Technical Services -Restricted (HITS-R) contract headquartered in San Diego, CA. The ideal candidate will contribute to the development of cutting-edge CEM algorithms and software to address critical Department of War (DoW) capability gaps. This role involves the entire lifecycle of technology development, from theoretical research and algorithm design to implementation in production-quality software, and engagement with key stakeholders.

Responsibilities
  • Design and develop novel CEM algorithms to advance DoW modeling and simulation capabilities.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies and innovative trends in the CEM field to ensure solutions remain state-of-the-art.
  • Participate in the full software development lifecycle of production-quality CEM simulation software.
  • Support the transition of newly developed algorithms into robust, production-level codebases.
  • Develop and execute comprehensive Verification and Validation (V&V) strategies for new and existing CEM codes to ensure accuracy and reliability.
  • Collaborate effectively within small, agile teams and contribute as a strong individual researcher.
  • Interface directly with stakeholders, users and customers to gather requirements and understand operational needs.
  • Prepare and deliver technical presentations and briefings to both internal and external audiences.
Qualifications
  • A Doctorate or Master of Science degree in a STEM field, with a strong preference for disciplines directly related to Computational Electromagnetics, Physics, or Electrical Engineering.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of relevant professional or academic experience in the field of Computational Electromagnetics or a closely related area. (Experience gained during graduate-level research is applicable).
  • Proficiency Demonstrated proficiency in C++, Matlab, Python, Fortran or similar programming language is required.
  • Expertise A strong foundation in electromagnetic theory is essential. Expertise in one or more of the following is highly desirable: high-frequency asymptotic methods (e.g., Physical Optics, Ray Tracing), full-wave high-fidelity methods (e.g., FDTD, FEM, MoM), High-Performance Computing (HPC), GPU acceleration.

• Intermediate-to-advanced level skills in Microsoft Office software suite—Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint. • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees and outside contacts. • Strong interpersonal skills and good judgment with the ability to work alone or as part of a team.

 

Physical Demands: 

  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds
  • Must be able to stand and walk for prolonged amounts of time
  • Must be able to twist, bend, and squat periodically

The salary range for this position is between $150,000 - $160,000

SECURITY CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to obtain a security clearance at the Secret level. US Citizenship is a requirement for Top Secret clearance at this location.
