Description
The Opportunity
The NY LGBT Network is seeking a hands-on Comptroller to run the day-to-day work of our finance department, with a particular focus on getting our government contracts billed, reimbursed, and closed out on time. We manage multiple city, county, and state contracts, each with its own budget, funding period, and reimbursement process. We need someone who has done this work directly, knows how to keep it moving, and will make sure the organization is paid promptly for the services it delivers.
This is an important position within a dynamic, mission-driven nonprofit organization. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Comptroller will be responsible for ensuring that financial operations run efficiently, accurately, and effectively while supporting the organization's programs, services, and overall mission.
We are looking for someone who understands the practical realities of nonprofit financial management, particularly the complexities of government-funded programs. This includes managing multiple contracts with different funding periods and requirements, preparing and modifying budgets, allocating personnel and expenses across funding sources, monitoring spending and reimbursements, and maximizing available funding while maintaining compliance.
This is a hands-on position requiring someone who is comfortable managing financial operations, working directly with staff, solving problems, and ensuring that work gets done accurately and on time.
Equally important, the successful candidate will be collaborative, approachable, flexible, and solutions-oriented. We are looking for someone who understands that the finance department is a partner to the organization's programs and mission.

• Reduce outstanding government receivables and shorten the time between expense and reimbursement.
• Keep contract budgets current, with modifications submitted before deadlines.
• Close out contracts fully and on time, recovering all allowable funds.
• Deliver a clean annual audit, with schedules ready when the auditors arrive.

working environment, and organizational culture.
