Role Summary
Export Packers is on the lookout for an experienced, commercially driven, and motivated individual with a passion for commodity trading to join our team as a Commodity Trader. This position will be responsible for trading a food commodity category (meat, seafood, fruits, vegetables or juice), while building and maintaining solid long-term relationships with counterparties in the respective industry across geographical regions. As the Trader, you will be responsible for driving and identifying new opportunities and establishing new partnerships. The ideal candidate would have in-depth experience marketing these products as well as deep relationships with existing buyers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Grow and develop our commodity's business across the assigned geographical regions through building on existing customer and vendor relationships
- Lead negotiations and execute on buying & selling (trade) to assigned accounts
- Scout for and secure opportunities for new revenue streams
- Drive and maintain gross profit and tonnage for your assigned account base while managing inventory
- Work closely with logistics and operations to satisfy customers' needs and timelines
- Work closely with the procurement team and other sales teams in order to gain incremental business opportunities across all trade channels
- Engage in daily analysis of market trends and data, and monitor competitors' activities in the applicable categories
- Serve as an advisor to both customers and our procurement team to capitalize on market opportunities and trends
- Work closely with accounting and collections in order to comply with all requirements, and to make sure aging is up to date and in within parameters
- Some travel within North America to important trade shows, and customer and supplier visits
Requirements:
- Degree or Diploma in Global Supply Chain, International Trade or a related field is an asset.
- 2-5 years' of prior commodity sales or purchasing experience is required
- Experience in commodity protein procurement or sales is a plus
- A solid track record of growing and managing own book/portfolio
- Superior negotiating skills
- Ability to establish and maintain good relationships with suppliers
- Highly organized and detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy, while quick to learn
- Results-driven and a self-starter with a strong work ethic, a sense of initiative, and the ability to work well independently and as part of a team in a dynamic, fast-paced work environment
- Excellent communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills.
- Analytical and a logical thinker
- Intermediate to advanced MS Excel capabilities, able to work with multiple spreadsheets.
- Proficiency in other languages is a strong asset
The annual base salary for this role is expected to fall between $90,000 and $125,000, but may be higher for experienced Commodity Traders.
