We are looking for an experienced Commissioning Manager to support our Construction Management Team leading the Commissioning Process on-site at a Data Center Project in Youngstown, OH.
Position Overview:As Commissioning Manager, you will act as the quality, risk, and performance gatekeeper for the owner. The Owner's Commissioning Manager holds ultimate authority over schedule alignment, risk mitigation, script approval, and final acceptance to ensure the mission-critical facility is zero-defect at handover.
Key Responsibilities:
- Governance, Oversight & Strategy
- Develop and implement the overall Commissioning Plan and ensure it aligns with the Owner's Project Requirements.
- Direct and manage the General Contractor (GC), and equipment vendors to maintain schedule discipline and enforce contractual quality standards.
- Enforce strict "gate control"-ensuring a system fully passes one commissioning level (with zero critical issues) before permitting advancement to the next.
- Field Execution & Quality Assurance
- Directly witness high-risk milestones, including Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) for long-lead gear, switchgear energizations, generator step-load testing, UPS discharge tests, and full-facility Level 5 IST / Blackout testing.
- Maintain and drive resolution on the Master Commissioning Issues Log. Categorize defects by severity (Critical, Major, Minor) and ensure contractors execute corrective actions prior to final sign-off.
- Ensure infrared (IR) thermography, airflow balancing, and environmental monitoring (temperature/humidity thresholds in data halls) are executed under full simulated thermal load during Level 4 and 5 tests.
- Inter-System Integration & Risk Mitigation
- Bridge the gap between mechanical, electrical, plumbing (MEP), controls (BMS/EPMS), and fire protection teams to ensure cross-system dependencies (e.g., cooling recovery speed after power loss) function seamlessly.
- Oversee utility feed energization sequences, lock-out/tag-out (LOTO) protocols, and temporary power-to-permanent power transition safety.
- Verify that designed redundancy configurations operate correctly under stress without unintended cascade trips or secondary failures.
- Commissioning Support and Turnover
- Ensure as-built drawings, operations and maintenance (O&M) manuals, spare parts inventories, and factory test reports are fully compiled and transferred to the facility operations team.
- Witness and sign off on full-load, failure-mode, and heat-soak testing to ensure seamless failover across redundant power paths.
- Conduct regular field walks to spot installation deficiencies, manage QA/QC punch lists, and verify corrective action before final handover.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in electrical or mechanical engineering or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a commissioning role within the construction industry.
- Experience in the data center industry highly desired.
- Proficient knowledge of electrical distribution, chilled water, and cooling tower equipment and systems.
- Strong understanding of commissioning and project management principles.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks concurrently.
- Demonstrated problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
- Familiarity with AutoCAD, Revit, and other relevant software tools is preferred.
