Position Purpose
RLI's Commercial Surety team is looking for an Underwriter to support our Southeast territory. We are open to a Sr. Underwriter, Manager, or Director-level candidate, and the posted salary range may be flexible based on experience. The ideal candidate brings deep technical knowledge in Commercial Surety, broad market relationships across the Southeast, and proven experience driving profitable growth.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities- Direct all aspects of the underwriting process for a group within a product line.
- Underwrite and monitor commercial accounts and account lines.
- Develop and execute a marketing plan by targeting new brokers, arranging meetings, and attending industry functions.
- Perform and monitor the risk analysis.
- Analyze, evaluate, accept, decline, rate, quote, and bind new or renewal submissions.
- Lead special projects and other duties as needed.
Education & Experience- Requires a bachelor’s degree in insurance, finance, risk management, business, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar field or position.
- Experience developing agency relationships and managing a profitable book of business.
Knowledge, Skills, & Competencies- Ability to use analytical methods in underwriting processes to find workable solutions.
- Strong market presence and ability to generate new business opportunities through trusted broker relationships.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills with the ability to represent the company externally and advocate internally.
- Analytical skills to assess complex risks and inform pricing, coverage terms, and portfolio-level decisions.
- Comfortable with data tools and technology platforms to monitor performance and support reporting needs.
Compensation OverviewThe base salary range for the position is listed below. Please note that the base salary is only one component of our robust total rewards package at RLI. The salary offered will take into account a number of factors including, but not limited to, geographic location, experience, scope & responsibilities of the role, qualifications/credentials, talent availability & specialization, as well as business needs. The below range may be modified in the future.Base Pay Range$130,362.00 - $186,248.00
