The Commercial Practice Lead will define the vision and drive the growth of CMK’s Commercial Consulting Practice. This leader will build on CMK’s existing commercial and launch experience, current client relationships, and delivery credibility to formalize and scale a profitable practice across existing accounts and new market opportunities. The role owns practice pipeline, service offering development, and executive client expansion. The Practice Lead will partner closely with Sales, the Head of Delivery, Operations, Recruiting, Finance, and HR to ensure opportunities are sold, staffed and delivered. The role will remain selectively involved in client delivery to support credibility, business development, and methodology development.As the practice scales, the focus will shift increasingly toward market expansion and practice strategy. Success will be measured by revenue growth, client acquisition, account expansion, and delivery quality.
Primary Responsibilities
Business Development
·Own practice revenue, bookings, pipeline, profitability and growth targets.
·Generate and close new consulting opportunities across pharmaceutical and biotechnology clients while expanding executive relationships.
·Lead solution development, proposals, pricing strategy and contract negotiations.
·Drive account expansion, cross-selling, strategic partnerships, and new market opportunities
·Partner with CMK Sales to ensure clear account strategy, coordinated pursuit execution, and alignment between business development activity and practice growth goals.
Practice Growth and Market Expansion
·Define and execute the Commercial Practice growth strategy.
·Develop differentiated service offerings aligned to emerging client needs and market opportunities.
·Expand CMK's market presence through thought leadership, industry engagement, and strategic networking.
·Identify adjacent growth opportunities and establish CMK as a recognized leader in commercialization, launch excellence, and commercial transformation.
Executive Client Advisory
·Serve as a trusted advisor to senior commercial leaders.
·Provide strategic guidance across commercialization, launch readiness, commercial operations, customer engagement and transformation initiatives.
·Identify opportunities to deepen and expand client relationships.
·Support client discussions, strategic pursuits, and business growth opportunities.
Delivery and Profitability Leadership
·Provide executive oversight for key engagements and strategic accounts.
·Ensure projects achieve client objectives while meeting business performance targets.
·Build scalable delivery models, methodologies, and best practices.
·Manage engagement governance, risk, and client satisfaction.
·Partner with the Head of Delivery to ensure new engagements are practical to staff and structured for quality delivery expectations.
Talent and Organizational Leadership
·Recruit, develop, and retain high-performing consulting talent.
·Align staffing, hiring, and workforce planning to business and client needs.
·Build a scalable organization aligned to growth objectives.
·Mentor future engagement leaders and business developers while supporting succession planning.
·Work with Recruiting and HR to build the talent pipeline needed to support practice growth without overbuilding ahead of demand.
Experience Profile
Required
·15+ years of experience in life sciences consulting, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, or related industries.
·Proven track record generating consulting revenue and achieving growth targets.
·Experience developing executive-level client relationships and winning new business.
·Expertise in commercialization, commercial operations, launch excellence, or business transformation.
·Experience leading consulting teams, practices, or client portfolios.
·Strong executive communication, negotiation, and leadership skills.
Preferred
·Former Partner, Principal, Managing Director, Practice Leader, Commercial Executive, or equivalent leadership role.
·Experience building or scaling consulting practices.
·Demonstrated ownership of revenue, bookings, and profitability targets.
·Established network of pharmaceutical and biotechnology executive relationships.
·Experience leading large-scale commercial transformation initiatives.
