About the role

Steel Reef Infrastructure is seeking an experienced Commercial Operations Representative to oversee our US midstream asset portfolio, with a primary focus on operations in the North Dakota Bakken. Reporting directly to the General Manager, US Business Development, this role is ideal for a professional with deep expertise in midstream commercial agreements, gas marketing and settlements, and customer relationship management within the upstream oil and gas sector. The successful candidate will play a key role in optimizing asset value, managing commercial relationships, and supporting strategic growth initiatives.

The successful candidate will serve as the primary commercial interface between Steel Reef and its existing US producer customers managing contracts, coordinating on operational and development activity, interpreting gas settlement statements, and proactively identifying incremental commercial opportunities. This person will also serve as a critical link between our commercial and accounting functions, ensuring that contract terms are understood, administered correctly, and communicated accurately across teams.

This position requires someone equally comfortable reviewing contract language, discussing producer drill plans, analyzing deal economics, and presenting to both internal stakeholders and external customers.

This position will be located in Calgary, AB, with ad hoc travel to the US based on business needs.

Key Responsibilities:

Contract & Asset Management
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for all existing US commercial agreements, ensuring contracts are administered in strict accordance with their terms
  • Maintain a comprehensive tracker of all contractual obligations, key dates, renewal windows, notice requirements, and performance benchmarks
  • Coordinate with legal and business development to manage contract amendments, extensions, and notifications as required
  • Administer force majeure notices, assignment notifications, and other formal contractual communications to customers and counterparties

Customer Relationship Management
  • Act as Steel Reef's day-to-day commercial liaison with existing US producer customers, building trusted, long-term relationships
  • Proactively engage customers regarding their drill plans, well development timelines, and volume forecasts to support infrastructure planning
  • Communicate and coordinate with field and operations on operational matters including planned maintenance, unplanned outages, system constraints, and curtailment events
  • Represent Steel Reef in customer meetings with professionalism and commercial acumen
  • Gas Settlement & Accounting Coordination
  • Serve as the bridge between Steel Reef's commercial and accounting teams translating contract terms into billing and settlement logic for internal finance staff
  • Resolve discrepancies with customers and the accounting team
  • Communicate Steel Reef's accounting processes and settlement methodology clearly to producer customers, and respond to inquiries regarding statement detail

Commercial Economics & Growth Identification
  • Maintain a current understanding of the economics underlying each customer agreement, including gathering fees, compression, processing, and netback structures
  • Monitor producer activity within Steel Reef's existing dedication areas to identify incremental connection opportunities, line extensions, or additional service offerings
  • Assist with annual budgets, volume forecasts, and quarterly variance analysis for existing US assets
  • Prepare project economic summaries, asset performance presentations, and commercial updates for internal leadership

Experience and Education:
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in midstream commercial, gas marketing, or related energy industry roles
  • Demonstrated experience managing commercial agreements in the US midstream sector, preferably in the Bakken or Williston Basin
  • Strong working knowledge of gas gathering and processing agreements, including dedication, commitment, fee, and fuel provisions
  • Solid understanding of gas measurement, allocation, and settlement statement mechanics
  • Proven experience as a customer-facing commercial representative managing sensitive producer relationships
  • Ability to apply quantitative analysis and sound commercial judgment to develop and communicate well-reasoned recommendations
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail - this role requires managing many contracts and commitments simultaneously
  • Advanced Excel skills required (financial modeling, netback calculations, variance analysis); strong overall Microsoft Office proficiency
  • Business, Finance, Accounting, Engineering, or related post-secondary degree


Preferred
  • Familiarity with North Dakota Industrial Commission (NDIC) regulations and Bakken basin commercial norms
  • Experience with production and infrastructure databases such as Enverus.
  • Prior experience in a dual commercial/operations liaison role at a midstream operator
  • Background in gas marketing, royalty accounting, or producer relations is a strong asset
