The Opportunity:
As part of our Danbury Operations team, the Coating Engineering Team Lead will have an exciting opportunity to directly contribute to the development of optical solutions for national security programs. We are seeking an engineer to lead and work alongside our team of Coating Engineers in the Manufacturing Engineering Department. The successful candidate will maintain a technical focus, providing input on one or more optical product lines for the Danbury business. In addition to technical contributions, the successful candidate shall perform standard supervisory tasks for a medium-sized team of Engineers.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical input on various projects or serve as the lead Coating Engineer on the Integrated Product Team (IPT), including tooling/fixture design, coating design and development, manufacturing work instruction development, and shop floor support.

  • Provide cost and schedule ROMs from derived requirements from the IPT for new work proposals with our business development team.

  • Develop and maintain internal cross-functional relationships. Work with the Optical Fabrication, Coating, and Assembly Team Leads to communicate program schedule and resource allocation discussions.

  • Supervise a team of Coating Engineers. The successful candidate will report directly to the Manufacturing Engineering Department Manager. Expected split is approximately 80% technical, 20% supervisory.

  • Supervisory tasks include HR, payroll, time keeping, and other workplace tasks. Also includes weekly reports and staff meetings as well as growing and developing the team to keep pace with the growing Danbury business.


Qualifications:

Required: 

  • BS in Physics, Engineering, Materials Science, or related field.

  • 7 years of full time work experience in the Aerospace industry, or 5 years direct relevant experience in Optical Coatings as related below.

  • Knowledge of coating design theory, equipment specification and implementation, and coating technologies (Electron Beam and Sputtering).

  • Skilled in coating analytical and measuring tools.

  • SKilled in Macleod and/or FilmStar design tools.

  • Comfortable preparing and presenting ideas to Product/Program or Functional Leadership.

  • Background in the Aerospace or Defense industry with a focus on low-volume, high value production.


Desired:

  • Masters degree in Engineering or MBA.

  • Previous experience leading a team in a professional environment.

There are a host of factors that can influence final salary including, but not limited to, geographic location, Federal Government contract labor categories and contract wage rates, relevant prior work experience, specific skills and competencies, education, and certifications.
