Coastal/Flood Engineer

In this position, you will work closely with other scientists and engineers to develop and manage the vulnerability module of KCC's inland flooding and coastal flooding catastrophe models.

Expected Salary Range: $90,000-$100,000

Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain the building vulnerability module for inland flooding and coastal flooding
  • Evaluate the effects of wave action, inundation depth, and flow velocity on buildings, contents, and business interruptions across construction types and occupancy types
  • Analyze and apply insurance claims data in the development and validation of the vulnerability module
  • Compile literature and datasets relevant to model development
  • Conduct post-event damage surveys after major events
  • Prepare technical documentation and presentations for internal and external audiences

Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a discipline with a research focus on flood vulnerability
  • Deep understanding of building performance under flood loading, including hydrodynamic and hydrostatic effects on structures
  • Strong foundation in probability, statistical, and uncertainty analysis
  • Experience in numerical modeling and scientific programming using Python, R, C#, or similar languages
  • Experience with GIS tools, such as ArcGIS and QGIS for spatial data analysis, is a plus
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, keen orientation to detail, an eye for professional presentation, and recognized organizational abilities
  • Ability to travel within the US or internationally with little advance notice
