Position Overview:

Alta E&I is seeking an experienced Construction Materials Testing (CMT) Project Manager - Professional Engineer (PE) to join our Geotechnical, Materials Testing, and Special Inspection team. This position is responsible for managing construction materials testing and special inspection projects from initial scope and proposal development through project completion and closeout.

The CMT Project Manager serves as a primary point of contact for clients and project stakeholders while providing technical oversight to field technicians, inspectors, laboratory personnel, and project staff. The successful candidate will combine strong engineering judgment with project management, client service, and leadership skills to ensure projects are completed safely, accurately, on schedule, and within budget.

This role is ideal for a Professional Engineer who enjoys balancing technical engineering responsibilities with client relationships, project management, and team development.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage multiple construction materials testing, inspection, and related geotechnical projects simultaneously.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, contractors, project owners, design professionals, and other project stakeholders.
  • Develop project scopes, proposals, budgets, schedules, and fee estimates.
  • Review project plans, specifications, contracts, and testing requirements to determine project needs and appropriate staffing.
  • Coordinate field technicians, special inspectors, laboratory personnel, and other resources to meet project schedules and client expectations.
  • Monitor project budgets, labor utilization, billing, work-in-progress, and overall project financial performance.
  • Identify scope changes and additional service opportunities and prepare change orders or supplemental proposals when appropriate.
  • Maintain regular communication with clients regarding project status, testing results, deficiencies, schedule changes, and other project-related matters.

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with existing and prospective clients.
  • Identify opportunities to expand services with current clients and projects.
  • Assist with preparation of proposals, qualifications packages, and responses to requests for proposals.
  • Participate in client meetings, preconstruction meetings, industry events, and other business development activities.

  • Support invoicing, accounts receivable, and project closeout activities.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or a closely related engineering discipline from an accredited institution.
  • Current Arizona Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Demonstrated experience managing construction materials testing, special inspection, geotechnical, or construction-related engineering projects.
  • Strong understanding of soil mechanics, construction materials testing procedures and applicable industry standards.
  • Experience reviewing construction plans, specifications, technical reports, and testing results.
  • Demonstrated project management skills, including budgeting, scheduling, resource coordination, and client communication.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple projects, deadlines, and competing priorities.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
