AWS FinOps Engineer helps drive cloud financial management, cost optimization, and financial accountability across our AWS environment. This role partners closely with Cloud Engineering, DevOps, Finance, and business stakeholders to maximize the value of cloud investments while supporting innovation, scalability, and operational excellence.
They combine strong AWS technical expertise, hands-on coding and automation experience, and a solid understanding of FinOps principles, including the
Inform, Optimize, and Operate lifecycle.
- Implement and mature FinOps practices across AWS environments using the Inform, Optimize, and Operate framework.
- Analyze AWS spending trends and provide actionable recommendations to reduce costs and improve efficiency.
- Develop cloud cost reporting, dashboards, forecasts, and executive-level insights.
- Manage and optimize AWS Cost Explorer, AWS Organizations, AWS Budgets, Cost & Usage Reports (CUR), Savings Plans, and Reserved Instances.
- Build automated solutions for cost monitoring, anomaly detection, chargeback/showback, and governance.
- Partner with application, platform, and business teams to identify optimization opportunities and align cloud spending with business objectives.
- Participate in architecture reviews to ensure solutions are designed for cost efficiency, reliability, and scalability.
- Drive continuous improvement through automation, operational excellence, and cloud cost accountability.
- Develop forecasts, budgets, unit-cost measures, and scenario analyses that support planning and connect AWS consumption to applications, products, programs, and business outcomes
- Evaluate and administer AWS pricing-model strategies, including Savings Plans, Reserved Instances, and other commitment-based discounts. Provide evidence-based recommendations, monitor utilization and coverage, and manage financial risk within approved governance processes.
- Automate recurring FinOps controls and workflows through infrastructure as code, APIs, scripts, event-driven services, and CI/CD integrations, including budget alerts, anomaly notifications, rightsizing recommendations, resource-scheduling controls, and policy checks.
- Facilitate regular cost reviews and optimization working sessions with cloud platform teams, application owners, finance, procurement, and business stakeholders. Maintain a prioritized backlog of actions, owners, expected benefits, and realized outcomes.
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field and 3 years AWS cloud experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 3+ years of experience in Cloud FinOps, Cloud Financial Management, Cloud Engineering, DevOps, or related disciplines.
- Experience managing costs in enterprise AWS environments.
- Strong understanding of cloud economics, budgeting, forecasting, and cost allocation methodologies.
- Experience implementing enterprise FinOps programs and governance models.
- Experience supporting cloud migration, modernization, and optimization initiatives.
- Ability to communicate technical and financial concepts effectively to business and executive stakeholders.
- AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Associate or Professional
- FinOps Certified Practitioner (FOCP)
- FinOps Certified Engineer (FOCE)
- Terraform Associate
The starting pay range for a candidate selected for this position is generally within the range of $80,840 - $128,700. This range only applies to candidates whose country of employment is the USA. Where a successful candidate's actual pay will fall within this range will be based on a variety of factors, including, for example, the candidate's location, qualifications, specific skills, and experience. Please note countries outside the USA would have a different pay range in the local currency based on the local labor market, and not tied to USA pay or ranges.
