Job SummaryThis position supports IT Infrastructure platforms and technologies hosted on-premises and in AWS Virtual Private Cloud. This role is responsible for Cloud Engineering and will provide technical cloud engineering subject matter expertise for multiple technology projects in support of the hosted cloud applications. This includes enhancing and building tools to driving enhancements of cloud operations, crafting high performance service solutions for enabling better cloud software enabled operations, continuous deployment to build cloud technologies of the future and build solution parity across platforms.
The Cloud Engineer is involved in the full technology life cycle of designing, configuring, developing, documenting and testing of solutions to meet business or technology requirements from application reliability and cyber security hardening perspective. This role will have demonstrated experience translating business outcomes, business requirements and technical requirements into technical designs for new technology solutions or enhancements to existing technology solutions, while following architectural standards and organizational policies. This position creates technology solutions based on a disciplined process and ensures they meet all product and service level requirements. Ensures that the design and technology solution implementation meets security and QA standards. Make solutions and solution parts production-ready by following the standard change management processes.
Strong understanding across Cloud and infrastructure components (server, storage, network, data, and applications), security best practices and automation technologies to deliver end to end Cloud Infrastructure architectures and designs. Cloud Engineer is responsible for creating reference architectures, best practices and procedures.
Job Responsibilities- Designing the cloud infrastructure, designing the cloud application architecture, and designing the cloud security architecture and ensuring project compliance with IT security policies, best practices and branch standards.
- Working with IT staff and management, and cloud technology vendors to plan, design, build, implement, and support new and existing cloud hosting services.
- Build tools and automation to PSEG LI achieve better availability, scalability, latency and efficiency.
- Monitor production and development environments to build preventive measures to enable a fail-safe experience to our customers.
- Document and communicate clearly to architect and implement solutions.
- Work closely across teams and bridge the gap between product managers, architects, and implement consistently reliable solutions.
- Solution Development & Implementation: Lead the development, implementation, and optimization of technology solutions.
- Technical Ownership: Take ownership of assigned systems, ensuring they meet performance and reliability standards.
- Cross-Team Collaboration: Partner with business stakeholders and IT teams to design and implement scalable solutions.
- Risk Identification & Mitigation: Identify technical risks and develop mitigation strategies for implementation.
- Security & Compliance: Ensure technology solutions adhere to security, compliance, and governance frameworks.
- Work with the groups within IT and Cyber security for related Infrastructure projects and initiatives including security policies for endpoint devices.
- Interface with other areas of IT for engineering and infrastructure support.
- Work within established configuration and change management policies to ensure awareness, approval and success of changes made to the environment.
- Ensure Quality Control and Assurance procedures are consistent with Infrastructure specifications, client requirements and corporate policies.
Job Specific Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field, plus 4+ years of IT experience; in lieu of a degree, a minimum of 8 years of relevant IT experience may be considered.
- 4+ years of hands-on experience designing, implementing, and supporting cloud infrastructure solutions, preferably in AWS environments.
- Strong expertise in AWS services, including EC2, ECS, S3, Application Load Balancers (ALB), VPCs, VPNs, and networking technologies.
- Experience implementing and maintaining secure cloud environments using AWS security best practices, IAM roles, policies, and network security controls.
- Proficiency in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and automation using AWS CloudFormation or similar tools.
- Experience supporting hybrid cloud environments and troubleshooting complex infrastructure, networking, and performance issues.
- Ability to design, recommend, and implement scalable, highly available cloud architecture solutions aligned with business objectives.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to create technical documentation and work effectively with technical and business stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications- AWS certifications (Solutions Architect, SysOps Administrator, or equivalent).
- Familiarity with monitoring, logging, and performance optimization tools in AWS environments.
