Clinical Nursing Manager - Operating Room

 

As our Clinical Nursing Manager for the Operating Room, you will be a visionary leader at CHI St Alexius Health Bismarck, overseeing the provision of exceptional surgical care and perioperative excellence. Every day you will coordinate the complex operational flow of surgical services, ensuring that patient safety, sterile technique, and clinical outcomes remain at the highest standard. You will be expected to plan, organize, implement, and maintain initiatives that align with our mission and vision while fostering a collaborative environment among nurses, surgical techs, anesthesia providers, and surgeons. To be successful in this role, you must be a skilled perioperative leader with a passion for clinical excellence, team development, and operational efficiency, committed to upholding the rigorous standards of our surgical department.

 

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and oversight for all aspects of staff management, including interviewing, hiring, orienting, promoting, training, performance evaluations, and corrective actions, fostering a high-performing and engaged surgical team.
  • Allocate and direct staffing needs across the Operating Room to meet surgical volume and emergency procedure demands, collaborating effectively to ensure optimal staffing levels, efficient turnover times, and resource utilization.
  • Manage unit performance by setting clear goals, clarifying job expectations, monitoring progress, providing constructive feedback, and recognizing achievements, while promoting alignment with our organizational Commitments.
  • Monitor and oversee patient engagement, quality initiatives, and patient safety for the surgical environment, leveraging regulatory knowledge and organizational policies to drive continuous improvement and achieve defined surgical outcomes.
  • Coordinate and manage operating systems, operational standardization, service standards, and communication methods to align with system-wide policies and processes, ensuring efficient and effective unit operations.
  • Assure the highest level of understanding, awareness, and compliance with all applicable Joint Commission, AORN, federal, state, agency laws, regulations, guidelines, and professional standards for perioperative nursing.

THIS JOB OFFERS BOTH AN INCENTIVE AND RELOCATION: We are offering a $25,000 Sign-On Bonus in addition to relocation to new hires who meet the eligibility requirements.

Required Qualifications

  • Required Education: Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN)
  • Required Experience: Minimum three years of leadership experience OR minimum five years of leadership experience in the discipline OR Master's Degree with no additional experience.
  • LICENSURE: Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of North Dakota or a compact state
  • CERTIFICATIONS:
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) required upon hire (American Red Cross, American Safety and Health Institute, or American Heart Association credentials accepted)
    • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) required upon hire
  • Competencies: Strong knowledge of perioperative nursing, nursing administration, applicable laws, regulations, guidelines, and professional standards; strong project management skills; good communication skills; good strategic planning skills; strong change management skills; high level of motivation; team orientation; professionalism; trust; and a high value on treating others with dignity and respect.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Education: Master's Degree (MSN, MHA, or MBA)
  • Experience: Minimum five years of progressive work experience, with at least two years of management experience in an Operating Room/Surgical Services environment is preferred.
  • Certifications: Specialty Certificate related to this role (e.g., CNOR) encouraged.
