Full Job Description
Purpose:

A Full-Time position is immediately available for an experienced Clinical Medical Physicist at UPMC Hillman Cancer Centers UPMC Horizon location at 2200 Memorial Drive, Farrell, PA. The center is one of 24 Cancer Centers of UPMC Hillman Cancer Center network and its medical physics operations are supported by the Medical Physics Division of the Department of Radiation Oncology, UPMC Hillman Cancer Center. The center is ACRO accredited, equipped with Varian TrueBeam and Clinac iX with on-board kV imaging, cone-beam CT, Rapid Arc and gated RapidArc delivery capabilities. Eclipse RTP with Aria R&V system is used for treatment planning, record, and verification. The physicist will be working very closely with another physicist to provide clinical physics support.

Primary responsibilities for the position include but are not limited to regular quality assurance testing and dosimetry calibration of radiation therapy equipment; dosimetry and clinical implementation of intensity modulated radiation therapy, SBRT, implementation of 4D CT and gated radiation therapy, and prostate seed implant procedure. The Medical Physics Division's goal has been to expand its strong clinical program in physics with emphasis on SBRT, VMAT, IMRT, IGRT with CBCT/OBI, 4D CT and organ motion management. Successful candidate should have demonstrated clinical skills in these areas and is expected to function independently with excellent oral and written communication skills. The Board certification and at least three years of clinical experience are required.

The physicist in this position will join a team of 40+ medical physicists across the UPMC Hillman Cancer Center network and will be supported by Medical Physics Division leadership. The physicist in this position will have many opportunities to collaborate and advance the Medical Physics Division's goal of expanding its strong clinical physics program with emphasis on both its academic mission and community-based cancer care.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide interpretation/consultation to the Radiation Oncologist on basis of in-vivo dosimetry.
  • Obtain and disseminate information pertaining to current practices within the field of Radiation Oncology Physics.
  • Collaborate with other UPCI Physicists in Radiation Therapy related research in the Division of Medical Physics.
  • Manage the in-vivo dose measurement and use of measuring devices for verification of dose delivery to patients.
  • Assist in the clinical practice of Radiation Oncology Physics and dosimetry.
  • Direct the design, fabrication, and measurement of treatment beam modifiers and treatment aids.
  • Perform acceptance testing and commissioning of all treatment-related equipment.
  • Provide consultation to the Radiation Oncologist on the physical and radiobiological aspect of treatment.
  • Maintain a comprehensive quality assurance program that ensures patients are provided tumor localization, radiation treatment, and dose distributions as prescribed.
  • Manage the systematic measurement, documentation, and assurance of the physical aspects of all radiation sources/devices used in Radiation Oncology.
  • Manage the development of treatment plans, acquisition and storage of data for treatment plans, calculation of dose distributions and machine settings for treatment delivery.
  • Translate the desired treatment plan into a set of instructions for radiation therapists to execute.
  • Develop and document performance specifications, testing, tolerances, and frequency of testing for all therapy equipment.


Qualifications:

  • M.S. or Ph.D. Degree in Physics or Medical Physics
  • ABR/ABMP Certification in Therapeutic Radiological Physics or Therapeutic Radiology preferred
  • At least three (3) years of clinical experience
  • Board eligibility is acceptable
